Well, the fact that, so far, everyone has voted on the side of "yes", speaks volumes about our country. Of course everyone is overly eager to sue in this country. Why? Because the courts have allowed it by rewarding insane amounts of money, for the most outrageous allegations; prime example Mrs. "oh, the coffee was too hot, and I burned my self"...NEWSFLASH: COFFEE IS HOT.
As an avid coffee drinker, I can tell you right now, if I sued someone everytime I scorched myself, I would own the McDonalds brand. Another reason, is that the defendants usually settle to avoid bad press, well, that sends a clear message.."hey, even if you are wrong, and you are an idiot, we'll stll pay you because we don't want the hastle!" They've got the money to fight it out in court, and chances are the plantiff couldn't afford the lawyer for that long, so why do the defendants cave so easily?
To me, you get more bad press by being a sucker, then you would if you just said, 5 million...are you out of your freaking mind? There is an underlying problem in this country. For all the wonderful qualities we posess, it gets overshadowed by the shallowness of our society. What you wear, what you look like, what kind of house do you live in, what you drive, how much money do you make. Oh, yeah and what's your par?
The point is that money represents happiness in this country, and the truth is the ones who say money can't buy you happiness, obviously have boat loads of money. To quote Gene Simmons, "Money is not the root of all evil, lack of money...is the root of all evil.
People will constantly look for oppurtunities and as long as the courts continue to even allow these frivolous lawsuits to exist, then people will never stop suing each other but very rarily do you see two poor people suing each other. So my advice is for the 'rich' targets out there. You've got the money, so if you feel that the lawsuit is unjust and retarded, then spend the money you would have settled with and fight it.
Take it as far as you need to to prove a point, stop rewarding bad behavior. The more you continue to pay people to sweep things under the carpet, the more people are going to sue, get it? And as for you judges, you have to take responsibility too. Some of the lawsuits shouldn't even be given the time of day and throw it out of court.
People are broke, tired of working for nothing, and will always be looking for an easy way out and as long as you continue to give it to them, they will continue to sue, and be overly eager to sue. Heck, I might even sue someone tomorrow, afterall, it is the American Way.
