Yes, mythology does actually teach a person much about culture. Each one is filled with information on how a culture lived. However, a myth is still just a story, and these stories were once mostly carried across ears via word of mouth. This means that they most likely changed over the time, and their exactness was changed as tales were re-told with exaggerations in order to make it better then what it once was.
However, every myth has a grain of truth. Archaeologists are one of the modern forces that have gone on rampage in order to find out the truths from the tales. Some places do not actually need to be wrecked in order for evidence to be found. The evidence is on the land, and kept within or under ancient buildings that have managed to stand strong since their construction.
Other evidence needs to be literally dug up before a myth starts to become believed. However, whatever the case, it has been found that the myths have been substantial enough to be able to be dug up from the ground. This has been great for those who have wanted to believe in their favourite mythological stories. Having a myth turned true, is one of the most gratifying things in the world. However, it can also become confusing to the persons who battle to accept the myth as truth.
Whatever the case, myths can indeed be found to be based on facts swung around a bloomed history. One of the most mythically-involved countries is the land of Greece. They myths have been so clearly chronicled that people have been made to feel in awe of them every-time they open a book. The Greek myths are actually a perfect mixture of unbelievable and believable. They make the unreal seem possible, and the real seem inspiring.
The grains of truth are found in the development of the Greek culture. They have built temples in honour of their gods who they entwined their myths around. Their temples have been worshipped ever since their construction. This is one of the strongest evidences that something inside the myths was more then just a little pagan story. It was one of the things that swept their culture up into a golden vessel, and caused it to grow like some kind of plant.
There is no stronger show of the realities of myth. The strength in the culture itself in enough to realise that the truth was in there all along. Myths were the real re-told in order to keep it in the minds of the public who knows that their societies were formed on the essences re-told in the tales. They are one of the strongest evidences of how cultures were, and how they were transformed. They can be satisfactory grains of evidence one needs to win a cultural debate. They can be believed to be truth in the form of a story.
