We are within a vastly different era than the one some Obama haters would like to return to. Heartily disappointed by his election victory in 2008 and implacably opposed to anything he's either accomplished or proposed, this minority will never see him with fair eyes.

But the rest of us - including some who voted for McCain but can think rationally - are willing to give this man a chance. He has demonstrated courage in the confrontation over health care, and shown class in the face of ugly diatribes about him. Are these slanders racist? You be the judge.

I've seen the sort of monkey-like cartoons and leering, threatening caricatures reminiscent of the bad old days of Jim Crow. But of course, that's what this sort of sign-waver dearly misses.

Message to John Doe: we aren't going back there. Not tomorrow, not next week: never. For one thing, laws have been changed to eliminate the sort of institutional racism which plagued this land for centuries.

Secondly, our country is filled with plenty of educated, capable, not-going-back kinds of 'minorities' we aren't going to dominate any more. President Obama is a good example of just such change.

Our first known African American leader, elected fair and square (after two not-so-honest elections) by a majority of the people. Those who were courageous and crossed party lines to vote him in, such as my 80-year old father, are to be commended for their private courage.

Dad voted Republican all his life - like his father before him. Although I talk politics around him (we're a political debate kind of family), I never tried to sway his vote over Obama. It would have been a waste of time, number one.

And that's not our way, we all share in the fun but try to leave the line of overt advocacy intact. My father chose to pick Obama because he simply felt that McCain was inadequate for the job.

Instead of voting the straight party line, as usual, he chose Obama because he was "the best man for the job - for these troubled times".

Our nation took a giant leap forward upon the election of this president. For a change, we picked a man by the content of his character, not the color of his skin. We saw beyond our previously narrow perspectives and jumped into the future with our eyes wide open.

Certainly, events which occur during this term of Obama's will transpire to focus blame on him when things go badly. That goes with the territory, ladies and gentlemen.

I don't care who's in charge, if you step into office with two wars in progress, an economy in ruins and a ticking time bomb of an offshore oil rig waiting to blow - you're going to have your hands full. We are getting what we paid for with this one. America is so much the better for it.

Is President Obama changing America for better or worse?

I read with interest all of the articles in both the better or worse positions. I voted for worse and want to expound on that position.

Obama and the people he has chosen to surround himself with are definitely taking a bad situation and making it worse by the power of ten. Each program they push is exponentially worse for America then the problem that existed in the first place.

Let's take health care, the most current issue on the table. It's also the most important issue they've addressed. The cold blooded callous included in this bill scares the bejesus out of even many democrats in Congress.

Rationed Health Care, an issue to be overseen by bureaucrats based purely on dollars and not compassion. When your child on chemotherapy has cost the system more than his allotted and fair amount, then what? He's used up his fair share of benefits allowed for his age group, then what? The President and his minions don't address that question, the then what?

Senior citizens must learn to tolerate the pains that come with being old. They shouldn't expect costly procedures to diminish the pain or reduce it to a tolerable level. This is a stupid and incredibly shortsighted idea. Let's say and elderly woman needs a hip replacement because the hip socket has worn through and is now wearing on the pelvic bone (it happened to a family member of mine).

But she's sixty eight and according to this democratic regime, no longer productive and not deserving of the cost of a hip replacement. Before her hip totally crippled her, she babysat grandchildren, did laundry, helped with light cleaning and occasionally cooked her fabulous Italian meals.

Now she's wheelchair bound and in unimaginable pain. No one can quit their job to care for her. She now needs assistance to do the simplest things for herself. So off to the Extended Care Facility she goes. She lies in bed, with nurses and technicians taking wonderful care of her, maybe. Women in her family live well into the eighties and nineties.

This wonderful facility charges anywhere from $6500.00 to $10,000.00 dollars a month for the care and nursing skills required. Do the math idiots! A hip replacement would have cost less in the long run and would have returned this woman to her family. But the bill in Congress has some provisions for her, some pretty scary ones as you will see below.

Obama's numbers are grossly inflated and that can be easily proven. In reality the number is closer to 27 million and certainly they should be able to provide insurance for this number without the travesty called his Health Care bill.

Here are a few highlights from the first 500 pages of the Healthcare bill in Congress. Another 500 pages to go. Many of the items are down right unconstitutional.

Page 22: Mandates audits of all employers that self-insure!
Page 29: Admission: your health care will be rationed!
Page 30: A government committee will decide what treatments and benefits you get (and, unlike an insurer, there will be no appeals process)
Page 42: The "Health Choices Commissioner" will decide health benefits for you. You will have no choice. None.
Page 50: All non-US citizens, illegal or not, will be provided with free healthcare services.
Page 58: Every person will be issued a National ID Healthcard.
Page 59: The federal government will have direct, real-time access to all individual bank accounts for electronic funds transfer.
Page 65: Taxpayers will subsidize all union retiree and community organizer's health plans (read: SEIU, UAW and ACORN)
Page 72: All private healthcare plans must conform to government rules to participate in a Healthcare Exchange.
Page 84: All private healthcare plans must participate in the Healthcare Exchange (i.e., total government control of private plans)
Page 91: Government mandates linguistic infrastructure for services; translation: illegal aliens
Page 95: The Government will pay ACORN and AmeriCorps to sign up individuals for Government-run Health Care plan.
Page 102: Those eligible for Medicaid will be automatically enrolled: you have no choice in the matter.
Page 124: No company can sue the government for price-fixing. No "judicial review" is permitted against the government monopoly. Put simply, private insurers will be crushed.
Page 127: The AMA sold doctors out: the government will set doctor's wages.
Page 145: An employer MUST auto-enroll employees into the government-run public plan. No alternatives.
Page 126: Employers MUST pay healthcare bills for part-time employees AND their families.
Page 149: Any employer with a payroll of $400K or more, who does not offer the public option, pays an 8% tax on payroll
Page 150: Any employer with a payroll of $250K-400K or more, who does not offer the public option, pays a 2 to 6% tax on payroll
Page 167: Any individual who doesn't have acceptable healthcare (according to the government) will be taxed 2.5% of income.
Page 170: Any NON-RESIDENT alien is exempt from individual taxes (Americans will pay for them).
Page 195: Officers and employees of Government Healthcare Bureaucracy will have access to ALL American financial and personal records.
Page 203: "The tax imposed under this section shall not be treated as tax." Yes, it really says that.
Page 239: Bill will reduce physician services for Medicaid. Seniors and the poor most affected."

Page 241: Doctors: no matter what specialty you have, you'll all be paid the same (thanks, AMA!)
Page 253: Government sets value of doctors' time, their professional judgment, etc.
Page 265: Government mandates and controls productivity for private healthcare industries.
Page 268: Government regulates rental and purchase of power-driven wheelchairs.
Page 272: Cancer patients: welcome to the wonderful world of rationing!
Page 280: Hospitals will be penalized for what the government deems preventable re-admissions.
Page 298: Doctors: if you treat a patient during an initial admission that results in a readmission, you will be penalized by the government.
Page 317: Doctors: you are now prohibited for owning and investing in healthcare companies!
Page 318: Prohibition on hospital expansion. Hospitals cannot expand without government approval.
Page 321: Hospital expansion hinges on "community" input: in other words, yet another payoff for ACORN.
Page 335: Government mandates establishment of outcome-based measures: i.e., rationing.
Page 341: Government has authority to disqualify Medicare Advantage Plans, HMOs, etc.
Page 354: Government will restrict enrollment of SPECIAL NEEDS individuals.
Page 379: More bureaucracy: Telehealth Advisory Committee (healthcare by phone).
Page 425: More bureaucracy: Advance Care Planning Consult: Senior Citizens, assisted suicide, euthanasia?
Page 425: Government will instruct and consult regarding living wills, durable powers of attorney, etc. Mandatory. Appears to lock in estate taxes ahead of time.
Page 425: Government provides approved list of end-of-life resources, guiding you in death.
Page 427: Government mandates program that orders end-of-life treatment; government dictates how your life ends.
Page 429: Advance Care Planning Consult will be used to dictate treatment as patient's health deteriorates. This can include an ORDER for end-of-life plans. An ORDER from the GOVERNMENT.
Page 430: Government will decide what level of treatments you may have at end-of-life.
Page 469: Community-based Home Medical Services: more payoffs for ACORN.
Page 472: Payments to Community-based organizations: more payoffs for ACORN.
Page 489: Government will cover marriage and family therapy. Government intervenes in your marriage.
Page 494: Government will cover mental health services: defining, creating and rationing those services.

This is an outrage and MUST be stopped! I can't wait to finish the other 500 pages. These are only part of the reasons I say that absolutely Obama is changing America for the worse.

Contact your Representatives and let them know how you feel about this. We, as a country, cannot afford another 1000 page bill to go through congress without being read. We, as Americans cannot tolerate the heartless coldblooded approach to healthcare for our citizens. We, are Americans want to retain the greatest healthcare system in the world with choices made by our trusted physicans and ourselves or our loved ones when we are unable to decide ourselves.
