I'm not as thrifty as some environmentally savvy persons are and it's because of this that I think that it's time that we stop trying to save our planet and start spending it. Who benefits from our denying ourselves use of the beauty and utility of Earth? Our children and their children, the same people who will inherit the rest of that which belongs to us. My guess would be that I'm in good company when I advocate Warren Buffett's philosophy of leaving our kids enough that they can do whatever they want but not enough that they can do nothing. With that said here is my plan for spending our planet.
There's no point in pissing the bed. That stands if it's your bed, someone else's bed, whether you have to change the sheets or whether someone else does. It just doesn't make sense so why do it. Someone is going to have to sleep in it or deal with it and if you can get up and use the toilet why do it. The same can be said for pollution, really it's just senseless and lazy. The least you could do is get a bed pan.
Have you ever spoken with someone who has travel extensively and heard of their exploits. Generally speaking if these exploits are people it's considered polite not to mention them, so it can only be assumed that what they've exploited is the Earth. Most likely they've taken advantage of it in ways that excite the mind and spur others to the same sort of actions. Gawking at it, treating it like it's their own private playground, that's what tourist do and they're good at it. Everyone has their own way about it but their all exploiting the earth.
Another great way to spend the planet is like money. Cash is an imaginary commodity and can't compete with the tangibility of natural resources. That's why people wear jewelry made of rare stones and precious metals not poly-blend currency. The tricky thing when it comes to spending the planet like money is getting a return on your investment. Short term gains are good but they're rarely sustainable so it takes a little bit of foresight and planning to be able to do this correctly. There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to spend the planet and keep on spending it for many years to come. You just have to be smart about the ways that you spend it so that you don't run out of the key ingredients for further success in spending the planet.
That basically sums up my plan for spending the planet but if you'd like to save the planet instead biodiversity is probably pretty important. Right up there with a bunch of measures to reverse the tides and prevent the inevitable changes that take place from happening. Spending the planet on the other hand only delays the inevitable, allowing it's adherents to cash in on the beauty and utility on earth in the mean time.
