Although, I agree that the energy crisis might be abating we still must take the situation seriously for the sake of future generations. We're in the the midst of the worst financial crisis since the "Great Depression", with foreclosure rates hitting all-time record levels. Consumers are now faced with tougher choices,we can't take those;"Sunday drives" with the family anymore. Discretionary income is little or nothing now and the middle class is suffering dramaticly. Work still has to be done to find cheaper, alternative energy and to remain committed to this pusuit. Years ago, when we were faced with the energy crisi of the 1970's , "lip service" was all that was given and we were faced with this new crisis. The eve of the Presidential elction is upon us and wer faced with this tough choice as well. With all of these difficulties, it is very important to come together as a stronger nation and "brainstorm" and implement new ways to alleviate any future crisis.
I admire investor,T-Boone Pickens who has recently been running commercials on alternative energy and this is getting more of the public on the "bandwagon". There are still sacrifices to be made, but we are a strong and resilient Nation and were blesseed with a great fortitude! Remember the movie,"PAY IT FORWARD" does anyone not think that that's what we should be doing? I certainly think so, it's time that we start selfless before we lose even more and sink into poverty! Martin Luther King made a speech almost fifty years ago and now is the time to reveiw those words and start living them!
To sum it up, we're living on a precarious tight-rope these days and it seems to be getting harder and more cumbersome each day, we must act now and use preventive maintenance to shore up our eroding economy. Yes, we're a strong nation but we must stay strong and we must once again become number one! Future generations are depending on our knowledge and I really don't envy the struggles that they must face! Maybe it could be time to live like our ancestors, it seemed to be simpler although I'm sure they had their challenges. Why is it that we're either afraid or too lazy to walk an extra mile or two? Or, ride a bicycle? Although I am happy to see less SUV's during my morning commute. Maybe we could save the environment and save money if we rode bicycles? What a no-brainer! There are many other solutions and ideas yet to be discussed, let's make sure that they are all brought to the table and given equal qpportunity for discussion.

America's energy crises is here to stay until all the alternatives kick in. Some of those alternatives are solar power, geothermal, ocean wave and tidal generation, and wind power for starters. Take a look at T. Boone Pickens plan to help solve the energy crises and hope that people jump on board. This billionaire is willing to put his money where his mouth is and he has invested billions of his OWN money to help. He is taking an enormous risk, but that is how he became a billionaire in the first place. He is not afraid to gamble on something he believes in, and he believes wholeheartedly in his energy plan. What is it?
His plan is to create a huge wind farm throughout many states primarily in the midwest where wind energy is the greatest. Another part of his plan is to switchover the transportation needs of this country from oil to natural gas. America owns trillions of acres of natural gas, enough to last well into the next century. If we can substitute natural gas for oil for our transportation needs, we can kick our dependence on foreign oil. Another benefit is that natural gas burns cleaner than gasoline which is terrific. I love his plan, and think this is the first concrete plan I have heard that America can do now, not some hazy time in the great beyond. Let's get behind him on this.
Back in the seventies America went through the pains of it's first energy crises, and we had a lot of opportunities to think about using other forms of energy and to implement them. What did we do? Nothing, of course. Oil began to get cheaper and nothing could compete with the price of oil being so low. So we waited. The government waited and waited until we are in the predicament we are in now. Brazil went through the crisis as well, but they didn't wait. They searched for a way out and they found it. They grow sugar cane down there, and that is what they are powering their country with now. They went through a lot of pain to get where they are today, but they are energy independent, unlike us. We were lazy and stupid, they were productive and smart. Now we pay the grievous price.
The energy crises is real, and oil is not going to drop in price like back in the seventies again. We must do something real this time, or we will be fighting a lot more wars in the future. This is a multi-pronged effort, using solar, wind, geothermal, etc. to wean us off of foreign oil. But we can do it, because we are Americans. We need to unite, and we need strong leadership to get us in the right direction. Let's force our politicians to act now, not later! If we don't get off our butts now, there will be a hell of a price to pay.
