I must admit that I am no longer a "cat person." That being said, based on my limited amount of feline experience I vote for the male cat as the more friendly gender. The three best cats I ever had were Charlie, Alex and Thomas J. All three were different types. Thomas J was a mixture of Siamese and Himalayan (or so I was told). Obviously, they were males and none of them were neutered. And to top that off, the first two were strays that my brother brought home and the last I purchased for twelve dollars at a feed and seed store! To be honest, female cats actually scare me. I have been scratched a great many times by female cats.

I had two females cats later on and I must say I did not own them for long! One would hide under furniture and attack feet as people walked by. The other would bite you while you pet it. Sometimes it would bite even before you had the chance to touch it. And eventually they both ran away and found other homes. Simply put: they seem far more on the wild side than males. I am not entirely sure if that has anything to with hormones or gender roles or something of that nature. For example, with "big cats" the lioness is the one to do the hunting and discipline the cubs. The male lion appears to save his energy while laying around until he is required to show aggression by defending his pride.

It is my personal opinion that male cats are incredibly entertaining. They have so much personality and do the strangest things. My males also seemed to be a bit more inquisitive. It can be entertaining to watch a cat try to understand a fish bowl or a treadmill or anything that moves on its own! Females are more of the "bite now, ask questions later" type. Thomas J actually liked water and would run into the shower when I turned on the water! He would splash around and play until I pulled him out! Charlie was a bit of a problem for our neighbors though. I mentioned that he was not neutered and the neighbors had a female. He would chase her around a lot which upset our neighbors. But he always came home and never once bit or scratched me and I was only about ten years old at the time. I will never forget that cat! He was so cool! Alex was more of the fat, lay around the house type. I don't think he had enough energy to run away!

So in conclusion, even though my husband and I are "dog people," if I had to choose a cat for someone, I would pick a male every time!

Female

I was never a cat person I would never hurt one but they were just never my thing. I had always been a dog guy. Dogs are great except for having to pick up their poop but then cats have their litter boxes now don't they? I currently have a very cute beagle oh, and 3 cats. Yes 3 female cats along with my female dog. And yes, they get along; like cats and dogs!

So I'm finally a cat person too thanks to the love of my life. We didn't set out to have any cats, they just sort of happened. They truly just showed up on our doorstep, one in the middle of winter at about 2 am, our dog let us know that the cat was outside, she was just a wee baby.

Cats are great pets too. All 3 cats are female so I would have to say that they are the friendliest. The fact is that female cats, at least our three, want affection when they want it and not before or after. Just like a human woman, oh I'm kidding of course. The lucky thing is that the cats want, or should I say demand, attention at different times. The downside is that they demand attention at different times of the 24 hour day.

Molly-Dolly, or just Molly, demands attention at our dinner time and only at dinner. Dinner gets served and suddenly she begins showing up in peoples' laps. Then Turtle, she is a tortoise color hence the name, wants her time at about 3 a.m.! She cares not that that work is involved a few hours later she simply walks upon our heads until we sleepily respond. She will then curl up next to us and go to sleep; after she wakes us for play.

Finally we have Kitty, yes I know it's a truly unique name and we searched hi and low for it, she enjoys hanging out in the washroom. She refuses to leave when someone wants to go in there you'd have to pick her up and physically remove her but she lets you know how unhappy she is with that. So you can likely guess when Kitty demands her affection time!

It's not that they won't accept attention from us at any other time but that's when they want it. It's the same thing every day. Now, the only one who has some issues with attention at other times is Turtle. Sometimes Turtle has a mission to complete and has no time to be held or play with but that is only sometimes. Most often all are very willing to be held and played with.

I will grant you my experiences with the feline animal is extremely limited but I can certainly say, with no equivocation -sort of, that the female feline are extremely friendly little beasties.

Except for the weird times they want attention they are just great. Poor Mocha, our Beagle, manages to squeeze in whenever she can for her own bit of attention. It sure has changed since she was the only animal in the house.
