Entertainment! I love the drama, competitions, and everything else that comes with reality TV. We all love a good drama to keep us entertained, even if its staged, we connect to contestants and love to watch all the crazy things they do.

-Big Brother

My favorite reality show! People are locked up in one house, cut off from the world. They have to compete for Head of Household (H.O.H) and put two people up for eviction, but the two nominees and a few more players compete for the P.O.V (Power of Veto) which can take someone off the block and the H.O.H must put someone else in the saved nominee's place. I love the drama and fighting. It's entertaining. I love this season 11. I love the romance between Jeff and Jordan. Jesse who's full of himself and all of his followers, and annoying Chima. I love how Big Brother always has twists and a theme for each season. This season, they spilt the contestants into high school cliques: athletes, populars, off beats, and brainiacs. I don't like to watch the After Dark on ShowTime. The people are actually boring!

-Survivor

Who doesn't like to see people stranded on an island and have to go through competitions that can take teeth out. Well some don't, but again, its good entertainment. Moreover, that's what reality TV is about. The show consists of 16 castaways, 39 days, then at the end, one sole survivor. Each tribe competes for food, luxeries, and the all important "Immunity Power" to keep the tribe from having to vote someone out of the game. They must "Outwit, Outplay, and Outlast" the other contestants. I would never go on this show. I couldn't stand the living conditions and competitions. I love the host. He has a sense of humor unlike many reality TV hosts.

-The Amazing Race

Twelve teams travel around the world and try not to be the last team to come to the pit stop at their destination. Some of the teams are fun to watch. The bickering married couple, the two blonde-haired women, the two older men, and there's always someone with their granddad and that team is always my favorite. I like the Detours and Road Blocks they have to compete to get to the pit stop. The Amazing Race is another great reality show to watch.

If I wrote about every reality show separately and how the show works and the contestants, I would have written a book. These were my favorite reality shows that I'm proud to say I watch regularly. There's other reality shows like, the Bachelor, American Idol, Real World, Top Chef, Hell's Kitchen, Project Runway, and the list goes on. All of these are competition shows, but there are shows where they just follow people around like the Real Housewives, Househusbands of Hollywood, Kendra, Ruby, and more. Reality might not be truly real, but it does make for great entertainmen

Reality TV to me has always been something like the bowels of the entertainment industry and feeling that is true is why I'm ashamed to admit I am such a fan of it. There is something about it that rubs me the wrong way. It irritates, aggravates, and in all honesty sometimes makes me feel like I just lost a few IQ points for watching a full episode. It's base and displays the worst side of it's participants all too often and I'm hooked on it.

I think it began with Survivor for me. I recall there not being much on and I figured it was something that could serve as background noise. Little did I now that within a few minutes I would sit fixated on the drama about to unfold in front of my eyes. At first it didn't seem bad, I really thought it was kinda fun to watch. As the season progressed I found the storyline twisting and couldn't help hating myself for falling for the manufactured drama of it all. I was disgusted but that didn't stop me from tuning in.

Soon I found myself watching other shows like Big Brother. I hated this even more but again, I couldn't stop watching. I actually became one of those people I used to make fun of that was sitting around the next day talking about the previous nights episodes. By the time season two of Survivor appeared I was blogging about it as well. My descent was almost complete.

What completed it was when I found I became a reality tv junkie in need of a fix. I was actually watching reality TV on MTV and then VH1. I knew I had a problem. I had no one to talk to about it. By then I stopped discussing my "friends and enemies" on these shows with real people in actual conversation. I created a new on line handle to blog about these people in anonymity. It became my secret shame. Without realizing it I have even begun buying reality tv shows on DVD to replace the VHS tapes of them I had made and hid in my closet where nobody could stumble upon them. After all how else was I going to see all the behind the scenes footage?

Today I am in recovery of sorts. I still watch mt reality tv (Referring to it as "my reality TV is a sign of how low I've sunk for sure) but have stopped buying the DVD's for future viewing. I cut out MTV's offerings and try to stick to only what the big four networks offer and VH1 on occasion. I'm not talking to the television while the show is going on anymore as if they can hear me which is a good thing. Most of all I've stopped agonizing over the events of each episode as if it was a part of my own life.

I have a problem and that problem is reality TV. It is a shame I carry with me everyday. I often wonder how I fell into this trap and curse Jeff Probst for being so darn engaging those first few minutes of that first Survivor. Because I know there is so much on television which is more informative and probably more entertaining that could fill my viewing time I am ashamed to admit I am a fan of reality TV.
