I read where another writer stated that to say to a homeless person, or a Native American "God Loves You", is the equivalent of a slap in the face. Then and there, I learned that some people still have no idea what love is. As I read through the topics this morning I was intending on passing this one by when I caught a glimpse of an opposing view. You see, I typically want to read both sides of an issue, as you never know, my opinion may be wrong and someone elses words might educate me. In this case it merely stoked a fire within me.

I have been both homeless as well as having a fair amount of Native blood. I must say that God loved me as much when I was homeless as when I was not. And, since I have always had Native blood, he apparently loves natives as much as any other, or, maybe he just loves the white part! When I was a child, I liked pulling apart my Oreo's and eating the center. Maybe thats what they were saying? No, what I believe they were saying is that they have a very convoluted idea of what love is. Love does not mean you will never go through trials. Love does not mean you will never hurt, feel pain, or lose things.

Love does mean that through your hurt, pain, loss, if you have a million dollars or lint in your pocket, those who love you are there. When I was born, I had severe Cerebral Palsy on my right side. As I grew, my parents helped me learn to walk. As I learned, I fell, many times. Some would say my parents by not being willing to carry me everywhere and by allowing me to hurt myself, did not trulylove me. Surely the aforementioned author would feel this way. I praise God for my parents. For now, through pain, cuts, bumps, and bruises, I walk run, work. Maybe the misunderstanding is in the fact that in an attempt to qualify what is love, some have to quantify. They see love as what the receive value wise, instead of valuing what the receive.

You see, the love was not through teaching me to walk, or helping me learn. The love came from helping me up, holding me when I cried. I was not perfect, I was vastly imperfect. Yet through it all, they were there. They loved me. If I had not learned, they still would have loved me. You see, that is the perspective God takes. He loves us as we are, rich, poor, lame, black, white, native. He even loves those who think he doe not love because of some convoluted opinion they have as to what love is. Now that other author may be saying, "How do you know"? I know he loves you, he sent me to write this to you, so you may understand his love.
