Those who have children, siblings or a circle of beloved close friends can understand the heart of God in such a question. While there is not a child be it boy vs girl or little sister vs older sister, new friend we are excited about vs friend we have known since elementary school that makes us love one more then the other there is in fact our heart that may make us in fact like one more then the other.

God said David was a man after his own heart and at that point in historical Biblical documentation why wouldn't David be the one listed as such a man. He fought valiantly and passionately, he remained sane and confident though he faced more alone time with sheep then most could endure, and came out of it with such personal confidence he courageously fought the intimidating warrior Goliath. He did so with a faith that rivaled the greats before him including Moses. Following such disobedience in the Garden, such doubt that kept Moses from seeing the promised land personally and such insult as the worshipping of golden calves by the same people who had just witnessed the parting of the great Red Sea, David's confidence was God's joy.

David would go on to disappoint God as well, he would covet that which was not his, murder to have what he coveted and I do not believe at that time he was a man with God's heart at all, but they had gone through so much together that God's love of course would remain through those mistakes and because of that love David would return to his more sensible ways. A special relationship they would always have and at times God would like David, even identify with David more then any other, but not love him more.

So like that new friend who you may meet that seems to bring a breath of fresh air, or relate more to something you are currently going through....the little sister who you share the single life with while your older sister basks in married bliss, or the child who may share so much more of your own personal tastes or may even be better behaved then another...for that time you like and relate better to that individual ....for that time. You also quickly realize that the new friend can not share or replace the history of the friend you have had for so many years, the wisdom and advice you got from your older sister is not lost because she has married and the obedient child will at some point for some period of time become the one who is causing you heartache and disappointment.

God loves us all and he loves us equal but where you are, what you are doing, how you are conducting yourself, what you are fighting for and who - may have you in a place where you are a little closer to his heart, a little more enjoyable and thus liked more by God. If you do not feel special to him don't lose heart first know that he loves you as passionately as you love that child you dont quite relate to or the sister who has married and seems a little changed, in fact he loves you far more. Like all realtionships as you grow so to will your bond to God.

God loves those who love by action not emotion....feed those who are hungry. God is passionate about those who involve Him in all of their decisions....be a reader and pray. He appreciates you sharing His story and love in ways that are soft and gentle....remember God whispers to you so if you shout to others they may not be able to hear Him. God appreciates worship....remember to give thanks, but mostly God in return for His love wants your faith and trust which leads to the confidence of David and a relationship that holds not more love but a relatable closeness with an undefinable reward.

No matter what God you are talking about, God does not love everyone equally. Everyone's God always loves their followers more than the followers of other Gods. The Jewish God prefers Jews; the Christian God prefers Christians and so on. In all religions throughout history, God is sexist, racist, speciesist and vastly prefers the rich to the poor.

Showing Preferences - Back Then

Ancient myths portray Gods as often visiting their chosen people. They are chronicled as acting just like mortal people, with specific likes and dislikes, loves and hates. For example, the Gods and Goddesses championed certain folk heroes or armies in disputes. Gods and Goddesses needed to be propitiated with certain sacrifices, scents, flowers or foods. The Deities were very particular about this.

They certainly showed favoritism by promoting human beings to the top of the food chain, leaving all other species at humanity's mercy, much like how God leaves us at His or Her mercy. Ancient wisdom taught that "As above, so below" so that the Earth was a mirror of the afterlife and the spirit world.

If you had many children and lots of possessions, then they were considered signs that God liked you more than others. Your opinions therefore pulled more weight in your community because of this Divine favor. But if you suddenly became sick, infertile or lost all of your wealth, then clearly God didn't like you any more and you lost your power in the community.

Showing Preferences - Now

Does God love some people more than others? Let's look at what happened to the Native Americans. In the name of manifest destiny - where Christians knew that they were fated to take over the world - the original inhabitants of America were systematically decimated through murder, theft and broken treaties by Christians. It has been four hundred years since European Christian colonists have stolen America and there has not been so much as a heavy sigh from God.

With each passing year, studies come out proving that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. While the CEOs of major companies receive millions (and sometimes billions) and have the world's governments eating out of their hands, over 100,000,000 people worldwide are homeless (according to a 2005 United Nations report on homelessness).

To say to a homeless person or a Native American that God loves them is the verbal equivalent of a slap in the face. No verse from a Holy Book can bring comfort to the poor, the abused, the hungry and the suffering. Clearly, their lives prove that a merciful, all-loving God does not exist. If He did, there wouldn't be suffering brought about by injustice. If God exists, He certainly plays favorites.
