Is this a matter of someone being offended or is it a matter of something already defined as inappropriate and even illegal , or possibly it is something that people, the American people, want on the cars?
I really have no idea who complained, but I doubt it was a person who has low moral standards. It may not be one of the greatest citizens ever, but I doubt it was the scum of the earth who complained. By the way, I have no idea who the scum of the earth is, nor do I believe there are any people who fit that description.
I can see it now, people protesting because this issue is being decided upon by the government, and then it is decided that the fake sexual body part should be allowed to be hanging on the truck. Now, there will be some, even many, who will say, "Ah! Now I can get a magnetic picture of a sexual body part and put it on my car." Is that OK too? Actually, it has to be if one is not hypocritical. However, maybe just a very accurate drawing on the sign is OK.
If it is a matter of freedom of expression, I believe we are fools to let it stay there. Freedom of expression must be guarded. Pornography is someone's expression of what they think is good. Who are we to take that freedom away from them?
So, now is about "Public" expression! Think about it, that thing hanging on that truck is a public expression. Who gets to say what is appropriate or not? I would think that this makes a clear case for some real and powerful book of standards. Of course, every written law or guideline is second guessed, and torn apart, and found to mean whatever people want it to mean.
Where does it all end. I will have to be honest, I hope it all ends at the point of what is "right," not what are "rights". Or, it will end with a wrecked, immoral, sick, filthy, hated country.
Come on people, lets look around us. We have an awesome country up to this point, though it is deteriorating. We see that deterioration, and for the most part we can identify what is wrong in it. Majority vote of the people of America on moral issues will always demonstrate a higher moral vote. Of course, that is indeed changing. We can let it keep falling into the gutter, or we can look at what fools we are for not caring enough to make this a place for the future of our children and future generations. Are we so selfish?
If this is about someone being offended, well that person needs to get over it. Persecution might be a good reason for complaining, but I doubt this is a case of persecution. If I were the owner of the company that this person worked at, I would tell him he cannot park in the parking as a representative of this company with that on his truck. Then, he can choose. If I own the company and the building, I can do just that. It is after all just an expression of my moral values.
This is an opinion question, and I have expressed my opinion.

The Florida State Senators today are discussing the increasingly popular accurate reproductions of the male anatomy found hanging from the hitches of pickup trucks. In an initial vote, the item will be banned, Republican Sen. Carey Baker supports the ban stating the features are inappropriate for display under the language that pro hits the display of any decorations that resemble "reproductive glands".
It is being discussed under the guise of a larger transportation bill (SB 1992) that deals with highway safety. The Senate is actually taking tax payers money and using it to discuss the proposal to add this into the language of the new law. A proposal to tell people what they can and cannot put on a personal vehicle. Why? Because someone has a problem with personal expression. An expression that is guaranteed to every citizen by the constitution. They do not infringe upon any other person's individual right.
The bigger issue here is, however, is why the State government spending time on this issue when other major issue's are affecting every citizen of the state. Issue's like insurance, foreclosure rates, unemployment rates, and health care to name only a few.
There is a definite accountability issue at stake that is much larger than whether it is inappropriate to hang something from a truck hitch. Who gets to make the determination of whether something is offensive enough for the government to tell someone it is vulgar and against the law. The government telling people what they can and can't express on their car. This will continue on to spend tax payer's money if and when it passes and is challenged in the courts.
Are there not more serious issues that the Senate should be dealing with this session. Tax dollars at work, with issues such as jobs, economy, gas, inflation, housing, and insurance on the table, the number one item on the list is testicles. There is a definite problem in the priorities. Important legislation discussions are turning "testy" with discussion of what words can and can not be used on the Senate floor.
It definately makes a person wonder who decides what is discussed and even more importantly, why did we vote for the Senators in the first place?
