Total Nonstop Action has some talented people on its roster. Prior to bringing in the current spate of former WWE workers TNA still had talent but didn't use them properly. Today TNA still uses its talent poorly and because of that they are indeed yesterdays' news.
The people behind the scenes who control all the action in front of the crowd are called bookers. The TNA bookers don't know how to properly book the talent. This is not new; from its inception TNA has had difficulty booking its talent properly.
That said, it's important to know that booking a wrestling show and keeping track of all the storylines and adding new angles is a very difficult thing. It's so do hard that even after all these years Vince McMahon of the WWE still gets it wrong at least 40% of the time. Some years the WWE has gotten it wrong as often as 60% of the time. Booking is a tough job.
As long as TNA continues their current booking practices they will remain a promotion of the past. If they wish to become relevant then they need to get their booking under control. Unfortunately, they are wearing blinders and believe the things they are doing are ok.
The bookers do have the talent to work with in TNA. It's not that things have always been bad in TNA, they had the Ultimate X series going well but then they got distracted.
TNA utilized a 6 sided ring but to no great advantage. All other wrestling outfits use the more traditional 4 sided ting. The 6 sided ring has done nothing to enhance the TNA product. In the early days, TNA had trumpeted the originality and novelty of such a ring. They told us it would help separate them from the pack. Unfortunately, there is nothing unique being done with the 6 sides to make them unique. The TNA ring is used exactly like any other ring and there is nothing unique about that.
The TNA bookers must find a better way of using the talent they have. Kurt Angle is one of the best in the business. He excels both in the ring and on the microphone. A.J. Styles is one of their own who can be one of the more exciting performers anywhere when he is used properly.
Without great booking TNA will never become a company of the present or even of the future.

Total Non-Stop Action, better known as TNA, has been an independent company that has been trying to take it's production to the next level for about seven years now. To say that it's in the ranks of competing with World Wrestling Entertainment [WWE] is true, based solely on the fact that their quality of performance is ranked with that of the WWE. TNA may not have the media attention and diverse fan base that World Wrestling Entertainment has but that's only because they are still growing and adding to their fan base and their outreach into different countries. TNA has steadily grown from the brain child of Jeff Jarrett to the second rated wrestling promotion in the country.
I see TNA doing great things in the future of it's existence, mainly the one thing that separates TNA from the WWE is that fact that it's woman's division is diverse and grouped with strong competitors that can create memorable matches each and every time they step into the ring. WWE does not have this, yes they have strong competitors but they tend to repeat the same storylines over and over until it's tiring to watch it, leading to a fall in ratings and ultimately loss of interest in any kind of woman's division in any other company. TNA showcases the talents that their woman wrestlers possess and allow people to see that women in the ring are more than just eye candy, that they are strong, compassionate, skilled wrestlers and should be treated with the same respect as the male competitors.
WWE has lost it's touch of creative and interesting storylines, while TNA is coming to the plate, swinging with something new and exciting. Like the addition of the Knockouts Tag Team titles, this is something that WWE gave their women in the late 80's but were quick to dissolve it. TNA gives a chance for their women's division to expand and create a bigger roster for their women. WWE tends to hire women that look the same, or have the same silouette where as TNA hires all shapes and sizes.
Focusing on the male aspect of things, the men in WWE repeat the same countless, tiring feuds. I.E. Randy Orton verses John Cena, when will WWE realize that they need to give the younger, less known guys a chance to be recognized and not just a spot filling up roster space? Kofi Kingston, Mike Mizanin even Hornswoggle could have the potential to do great things if the company would get behind them and push them to be as big as Cena or Orton. TNA notices things like that, pushing AJ Styles, Samoa Joe and people that have been with the company since it was created by Jarrett. TNA gives great chances to the new up and comers to its roster by getting them involved in the big picture. You ask if TNA is a blast from the past and I say no, TNA is the present and future of this great business.
