Generic drugs are as safe as name brand medication.
Most people do not realize that when you buy a medication your not just buying that drug but your also paying for what it took to make that drug and the company that made the drug as well.
When you buy brand names in medication you are also paying for the name.
For example you go to the drug store and buy a jar of Vick's Vapo rub for your cold. It cost $4.99 a jar. You neighbor goes to the dollar store and buys the same thing but with out the vicks name and pays $1.99. Her results are the same as yours . She has cured teh same illness but used the non name brand to it.
Much of the selling world is like this. You can buy your children name brand cereal but also if you look down toward the floor the generic verison of it is sold there. And if you take an empty name brand box and put your children's non name brand into it, they will be unable to tell the difference.
Pharmaceutical companies come to your general practitioners office every day and give them samples of there drugs. If they prescribe there drugs they get certain breaks and supplies. Given samples your Dr pushes them on to you and when he writes your prescription he will write it out for that brand unless you tell him you'd like him to use the generic brand.
The world of medication has become no different then the rest of the free enterprise world. Its a competition of who can sell what for how long and how much and when that medication losses popularity then another one is pushed up the list to take its place.
Generic medications are made at the same exact things, the same exact ingredients as there name brand counterparts.
They are made more form a mass produce level with the lower income of the world in mind. So that they are more affordable.
90% of the name brand companies will also produce generic drugs as well and have reported through the years that their generic medication sell more often due to the fact that they are more of a reasonable price.
The only difference between the generic drugs and brand name drugs is the name and the cost pushed on to the consumer. This is why so many insurance companies will cover the generic medications first before the name brand medications.
