This question appears to be one in which it could be approached from two different sides. However, in my opinion, the answer is still 'yes'.
Are we talking risking his/her life as in taking risks to get here illegally? Or, are we talking risking his/her life in some way that would be considered a heroic patriotic endeavor? It's obvious that most illegals enter this country under all sorts of life threatening risks. They feel that risk is worth taking in order to get here. But, their success at entering this country illegally does not qualify as taking a risk 'for' this country. Therefore, regardless of the risks involved, they should still be deported if caught.
It certainly appears that the question of deportation of illegal immigrants, or of changing certain laws to allow some of them to stay, is going to be an on-going debate as long as there are people who do not embrace the true importance of being an American citizen. As long as there are groups of people with special interests, there will continue to be those who will try to water down the system to where we might just as well do away with any laws regarding illegal immigration into the United States.
Just for the fun of it, let me present the following scenario:
Pick a large city in the United States (any city), and select 500 American citizens in that city who are unemployed, homeless, and/or on welfare. Find each one a job for which he/she is qualified. Indeed, make them take jobs to earn their keep. Now you have just taken 500 people off welfare.
Oh... we can't do this, you say? And why not? Are there laws against doing such a thing? Is it infringing upon their right for them to 'not work' and to take government money on which to survive? And, according to this line of reasoning, I should have to work hard at my job in order to contribute from my hard earned money to support these people because they don't have jobs? What a wonderful system this is for all Americans.
But, wait! Now you want to add people who really do not belong here to the mix. You want to make special "excuses" for illegal immigrants by way of changing our immigration laws to cover all kinds of situations in order to allow them to stay here. And you believe there is one chance in hell that you can get the laws changed for these illegal people, but there is no way to enforce rules and regulations that will put American citizen to work to support themselves? Am I missing something here? Or, is this country more concerned with helping those who would 'like' to be here as opposed to those who are citizens and have a 'right' to be here and get the help?
No matter what scenario is used; no matter what set of circumstances occur; no matter what risks are taken by an individual who is here illegally... they are still here illegally. If he or she feels taking a risk for this country should give them some special privilege, they ought to take the risk of going back where they came from and applying for legal entry to this country. Now, that is what I call taking a risk for the United States of America!
In the meantime, anyone and everyone who is here illegally, regardless of his/her risking their life for this country, should be deported. We need to stop making this a 'personal' issue and follow the rules as set down by our founding fathers. The laws are in place for our protection. The term illegal is self-explanatory. So, why is there a question?

Risking one's life is the ultimate expression of caring for ones country. This is excluding any debate on the right or wrong of war the politics and the reasons for service to one's country. Service in for the common good is a prestigious and perhaps most important concept for the survival of the body politic.
In a system where anyone of certain age and citizenship can run for political office or position in my opinion leaves too many loopholes for abuse. Political campaigns are decided by promotion and some cases just by whom can win. When it comes as to an individual to stand up and risk their lives for others they are the greatest example to its citizenry. Not regardless of whether or not the provisions for joining any type of public service meet with violence or loss of life is a very important factor to consider.
A social worker that donates their time or perhaps their lives to bettering cases and individuals within the society is an important service or spirit to have in a society. However social workers do not encounter combat they do not encounter loss of limb they do not put their lives into the ideas of their politic or rather their ideas of freedom or what their lives should name important.
The garbage man takes out our refuse collectively doesn't complain or maybe does but out of earshot. There is some danger in his work is often very much thankless but he keeps his city clean and that is his service. The act will work to sweat is evident to his spirit to do what needs to be done but in our modern culture anyone can be garbage man and machines are taking up the slack. However not every garbage man serves his country like a soldier.
As only I can comprehend I have tried to serve in this capacity but thankfully I was born in this country and I am Citizen of the I do not need to prove myself to being a citizen but perhaps it is right to speak about good ideas and write about them rather than sitting on my laurels and being thankful for what I do not deserve, I will not be deported and I cannot be turned down if I wish to run for office but if a man from another country were to become a soldier for our country serve it be wounded or killed I cannot think any reason could be contrary to give him the opportunity to oath for citizenship.
If only military service was the only requirement for positions of power and politics today would we have a better government.
Sending or deporting such an individual that would die for you and your way of life is literally expelling the nutrient to your society because what cares for you nurtures you and anything else is death.
