Coffee

Is coffee a health benefit or a health risk?

The risk or benefit of drinking coffee is not a clear issue, therefore it has to lean more to the risk side. Most importantly it depends upon the health of who is drinking it and how often they drink it. Coffee poses a small risk to most healthy people who just love the brew bouquet, as well as the quickening of their energy. However, it is hard to tell when a lifelong habit crosses the line to negatively affect a changing medical condition.

For example, coffee exacerbates the loss of calcium and magnesium. The loss of these minerals affects many different parts of the body. Magnesium is vital to efficient smooth muscle function, important in heart conditions as well as with digestive disorders. Calcium loss may be small, however, there is evidence the loss can deepen problems with PMS, and migraine headaches. In the course of one day, because caffeine is delivered in other drinks, the affect of one cup of coffee may more than it seems.

Due to the nature of caffeine, it can interfere with the proper function of the thyroid gland, whose job it is to master the energy production in the body. However, a few tablespoons of milk may offset this.

Another problem exacerbated by the loss of calcium is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. In this day of keyboards in every size and shape, our wrists are at risk from overuse of the connective tissue that makes them work. So then, it would be a good idea to avoid coffee if this condition is a personal problem.

Coffee is not recommended when certain medications have been prescribed. Sleeping disorders may occur if the timing and or quantity of caffeine is not managed well. Headaches may occur in some people who drink more coffee one day and none the next. The sudden deprivation of caffeine signals trouble for many of us.

In general, if coffee gives you succor and energy in the morning, enjoy and indulge to your hearts' content. But if you heart flutters once too often, or some other health problem signals a presence, it may be time to limit or discontinue drinking coffee. Caffeine has more risk than benefit for some people. For some it's a rocket ship to a better day. If you're a devoted coffee drinker, it might be good to think about it once in a while.

Even though one of my favourite composers Johann Sebastian Bach wrote a Cantata that criticized coffee drinkers, Talleyrand [a French Politician] wrote that he received his inspiration from the coffee cup. Coffee for me is an inspiration to write and discuss clearly the issues of the day and is a right. Coffee has been shown to reduce the risk of Parkinson's Disease, Cirrhosis of the Liver, Type I and Type II Diabetes Mellitus, as well as Alzheimer's Disease. The reasons for the health benefits of Coffee lie in the fact that it posseses antioxidants which slow down or even prevent Parkinson's Disease, Cirrhosis of the Liver, Type I and Type II Diabetes Mellitus, and Alzheimer's Disease.

Coffee is also in my opinion a cure for the common cold where antibiotics, and cough medicines fail. Coffee especially with hot milk [in an espresso form] is consumed and the heat inside the coffee releases the mucus and all other forms of nasal and chest congestions from the body and reduces fever. I cannot speak for others but everytime I have had a cold with chest and nasal congestion, I would drink Hot Coffee and Hot Milk and the cure comes within one to five hours.

Coffee has also been instrumental in reducing the pain in the left side of my body. What is the ingredient for reducing pain? The ingredient is the caffeine. It is for this reason that Eli Lilly and Company once included Caffeine in their Pills such as Darvon and Darvocet. The Caffeine in the Coffee passes through the muscles and relaxes them and with that there is a disappearance of the pain.

Coffee is also used as a relaxant for those who are afraid to speak in public or in the case of an interview. I usually use coffee for that reason as well.

The people who talk about the health risk of coffee are nothing more than fearmongers. I resepct their viewpoints but they are not willing to take the risks because of one or two articles that associate coffee with one health risk or another. We might as well ban life since life is full of risks and events in life can prove hazardous to one's health. Coffee is not just a health benefit, it is a symbol of freedom for those who love our coffee. Any attempt to ban coffee will have the same effect as Prohibition did for Alcohol between 1919 to 1933.
