yes, toddlers should definitely get educational toys! toddlers are developing so fast and they are entering a big stage of learning to put sentences together, how to listen and understand, and how to do things the wrong or right way. and what parent doesn't want to have a child who is talented and gifted among others? a child who constantly impresses others with how much they know or what they can do?
i understand that a lot of people think that kids need to get toys for the holidays or cute little stuff. but let me ask you parents this: how much more room is left in the house for these cute toys? and if its not something big and extravagant, a lot of times kids lose interest and stop playing with it. and parents end up going through the kids stuff a getting rid of things that the kids only play with once or twice or just not interested in.
educational toys don't just consist of just flashcards or s.a.t. books. we have to remember that in this day and age, technology and companies have done their research and made EDUCATIONAL TOYS. fisher price? they have laptops where the toddlers learn all different types of shapes, words, and objects. and we aren't talking about objects on the adult level, its all age appropriate and fun for them. i actually bought my daughter a v-tech laptop at around 18 months and she loves it! she spent so much time with it and taught herself how to operate it and knows a lot of the games on there. her vocabulary shot up and i get excited for her. who wouldn't if their child learned at such a rapid rate?
these educational toys can stimulate their brains and their comprehension skills will increase. and when they learn so much and do so well, they will use these toys for a longer period of time and get much much more out of them besides the little stuff.
there are a lot of statements like "oh, holidays come only a few times a year", "kids need to be kids", "they need to explore their creativity and have fun". while all of these are true, why not allow the fact that learning is fun? why not go through the toys isle yourself and see the amazing amount of selection there is? but the one and only thing that might convince you is yourself. go ahead and the beautiful world of educational toys that your child can have a lot of fun with!
