Toys are so much fun for children of all ages. Whether they be education or just a regular fun toy, children will probably play with them either way, so why not allow your child to learn something while having fun?
My daughter is four months old and my fiancee and I have already discussed upcoming holidays and what she will be allowed. We figured that for Christmas, Santa would bring her one toy and that can be any kind of toy and that the rest of her gifts are from mommy and daddy and they will be more on the educational side. We do not want her to grow up being greedy, thinking that she gets all these cool toys from Santa. We want her to have a few things to play with, maybe some clothing, but most of all we want her to know that everything she got was picked out with love. It may not be everything she asked for, but alot more preparation went into the things she received and she should appreciate all that she gets.
Play toys are fun. Who does not want a cool new bicycle or a cool motorized toy to play with during the holidays? Really, what will happen? They will probably play with it for a day or maybe even a week and then it goes in the toy bin never to come out again. At least if she gets some new educational toys for the holidays, they will fit with her age and she and mommy and daddy can spend quality time learning together. Every year she will have something new to look forward too, not that we will not get her the usual gifts that most children get, but we want her knowledge to constantly be growing and expanding.
If we do get her play toys, many websites donate money to their charity for buying their toys. You can go and buy a cute dolly from the unicef website and they use the money to help others, this way you can show your child that even though they received a "play toy", by getting that helped other children and families get through the holidays.
I just want our daughter to learn not to be greedy and show her how small things can help on the large scale of life. I want her to WANT to go out and help the homeless and needy on Christmas or Thanksgiving, and I want her to realize how grateful we should be that we have such a wonderful life and all she really needs is love.
