It has been 59 years excluding the 2008 season coming up since the Indians last won the World Series. For a period after 1954, the team had struggled and not been much in the way of contention until the 1994 season. Signs were showing that the Indians could be dominant again. Whether or not, it could have anything to do with the movie Major League is another story. The question is can they win a championship.

The answer is yes. It is possible and like all droughts, they come to a complete close. Did the Red Sox win the World Series in 2004 when it was said they could never win one and they hadn't won one since 1918? What about the Chicago White Sox as well, the last championship was 1917? They won the following year. What makes them different from Cleveland at all? I don't see a difference at all.

The Indians coming up to this season may have one of the best possible rotations provided the players stay healthy and don't do anything to screw up. With Cy Young Winner C.C. Sabathia and Fausto Carmona, both nearly winning 20 games last season could become a strong 1-2 combination if they can take it to the post-season. If Jake Westbrook and stay healthy, he could potentially win 10 games for the Tribe making them have possibly 3 strong pitchers. There's also the question about Paul Byrd if the whole HGH issue is going to be a distraction at all. I do wonder that but if it's not and he plays effective, he's another possibly 10 game winner giving the Tribe 4 very dominate pitchers.

With the 2008 season, I have no doubt they can make the playoffs and they can win the division for the 8th time since the 3 division format started, more than anyone else by a wide margin. Sure, the Tigers made some moves but I'm not sure if that's going to be enough. The Tribe I think will be someone to look out for and why I think this year could be it. Also, take into account that history is not on the defending World Series Champions side. While there's a good chance the Red Sox will make the playoffs, there hasn't been a back-to-back since the New York Yankees had a 3-peat from 1998 to 2000.

No struggle lasts forever and it should be without question. The Indians will win a championship. Will the networks want that? Not a chance as they'd rather see Yankees-Red Sox every year in the ALCS. It'd be foolish to think they'll never win a championship, as they will, it's a matter of when exactly.
