Are typing jobs from home worth it? Yes! They are. I have been working from home for the last 3 years doing medical transcription. There is not a day that goes by in which I feel I have made the wrong decision. There are many reasons I chose to work from home. My first reason was being able to be home with my 6-year-old and not paying a baby-sitter over 100 dollars per week to watch him. I don't have to be in the middle of rush-hour traffic, and I certainly have to pay the astronomical gas prices to get to and from work. My son and husband love that I am here as well.

While there might be some people who believe you can't make that much money from home, I am here to say you can make good money. If you are a person who is motivated and are happy working with little-to-no supervision, then you will do just fine. Usually people who don't make good money typing from home either don't type very fast or they lack the motivation to sit and do the job. It does take a certain amount of discipline and concentration to sit for long periods of time to work.

On average, I usually make anywhere from 13 dollars an hour to a little over 15 dollars an hour transcribing from home. It depends on the types of account that I am on and of course how clearly the doctor dictates. I also have full medical benefits, vacation pay, and certain holiday pay. All these perks are worth it to me, especially since I don't have to leave my home.

For me, it's a liberating experience to be able to come upstairs to my office, sit down, and start working without having to deal with office politics, rude customers or coworkers. The whole element of having "favorites" in the work place is minimized as well. There is also less stress by working at home.

Medical transcription is just one typing job that can be done from home. There are other typing jobs one could do from home as well. In all honesty, I can't think of any bad things to say about working from home. I have much more freedom than I would if I worked in an office. If my son were to get sick at school, I can just sign off and pick him up and bring him home, and then log in later in the day or after he goes to bed (which happens to be when I work, third shift). If anyone were to ask me if they should take a typing job from home, I would have to say yes, but make sure you research the company first and make sure they are legitimate.
