Typing jobs from home. Are they worth it? In my opinion are absolutely worth all of the time and effort that is needed to make such a career work. Every single article placed on Helium is someone writing from home either trying to get some exposure, or trying to earn extra money. We as writers just need to keep in mind that not all jobs are real jobs. There are a lot of companies out there on the web that try to hire people under the belief that they will be typing at home for money, and then send them to some survey site that they will probably never see a single penny from. I don't consider that a typing job at all. Or there are sites out there who will convince people to pay for information on how to "break into" the world of typing jobs. Anyone who knows me or my work knows that I am completly against paying someone to work for them. I have never dont it, and never will. A real gig pays you, not the other way around. There are however legitimate typing jobs that are available to people that are willing to look for the diamond in the rough. Helium is one of those diamonds. This site allows us to express our opinions and we are actually compensated for the time that we take into creating an article or response.

When searching for a "typing job" I would recommend against just going to Google and searching for "typing jobs." Your chances of finding something that is legitimate would be to search for "Independent Contractors," or "freelance writers." A quick search under "freelance writers" will pull up sites such as Helium, Associated Content, and Constant Content. All perfectly legitimate ways to type from home and earn money. One word of advice would be to Google any company that you are considering working with to get an idea of what its users are saying about it. If many people are saying that the site is a scam then its best to move on and spend your time finding something that really is going to provide you with the income that you want, and need.

Another way to earn money from home my "typing" would be to start a blog. You can blog about anything. A lot of people choose to create a blog that helps others who are interested in working from home. You can then add Google's AdSence to your blog, and you earn a small commission each time someone clicks on an ad that is on your page.

There are people, myself included to earn their entire living online with writing and freelance sites. It honestly is one of the hardest things that I have decided to take on in my life, yet is something that I am very proud to do. Writers generally cannot be fired which in this economy is a wonderful thing. Bottom line is if you are wondering if you can really make a living from home with these types of jobs, I'm the proof that yes you can.

Long term you are not going to find a lot of well paid work typing from home unless you are very lucky.

You will be competing with many markets, not all of which are competitive. For example one website offers 'guaranteed work' for writers to type from home - the work consists largely of typing out students' resumes, essays and dissertations but the rate of pay is atrocious. You get around $20 for 4000 words or so. To writers in India and other places this is not bad but for a westerner, this is not well paid at all and is exploitation.

If you type in 'home typing jobs' on Google you will get many companies advertising work for typists and writers but take a close look and what many eally are are scams. Some of them even give you a topic to research and write about for a paltry sum - and these are then sold to students to help them with exams or studies so be wary of being used.

If you think about it logically, you are looking for work where the employer has no idea of your writing skills, they are looking for the cheapest workers who will type as much work as possible for the least renumeration.

Would-b e employers take advantage of the fact that there are many frustrated writers or people who are at home and looking to make a little extra income on the side but you are also open to exploitation.

The best way to get well paid work typing from home is to concentrate on a particular field where you have some expertise - science, history for example are all areas where good writers are few and quick typists even fewer and within these industries you can get reasonably paid work but long term ist is far better to get out there, put yourself on the market for a proper job and meet people.

The other thing about typing from home is that you may spend far longer checking, editing and re-doing material than you would if you were office or business based. To a great extent, if employers are genuinely looking for typists for long term work with good pay, they will employ them in the usual way.

An exception to this rule is casual part time work for organisations like committees who may meet a few times a year and need someone to type up notes, minutes or similar. If you can get work doing this kin dof thing and be recommended then you will find you gain regular work, reasonably paid and varied.
