ARE TYPING JOBS FROM HOME WORTH IT?

Yes they are, but with certain provisos. Firstly, you must remember that there are reasons you are working from home instead of venturing out and travelling to work for someone. This might be that you are at home looking after a baby and cannot go out because you need to stay at home to look after the baby. Or you might be caring for an elderly relative where you must stay at home. Or it might be that you prefer to work from home because you do not want to spend time and money on getting to work, or work rigid full time hours or work for someone else. For one or more reasons you are working from home to avoid things which are impractical or unwanted in your life. If you would otherwise be travelling to work and spending money on getting to work you must take this into account when working things out. It means that when you start work you start immediately, and not an hour or more later after you have travelled from A to B. This gives you more time to spend on actual work.

Working from home is worth it is you have decided you cannot stand working for others, or cannot stand working a strict 8 hour day where someone else dictates when it begins and ends or you need to be at home. But you must also bear in mind that people who are self employed do not get holiday or sick pay and only get paid on results. Typists only earn when they are actually typing. Of course if you choose to type articles by working for a site such as Helium.com then you will be lucky insomuch as you can earn money for articles which you write under subjects which do not have five or more articles already, plus an ongoing income coming in from those articles in the future.

Typing jobs will not pay a lot, partly because there are so many people who want such jobs the employers can pick and choose and pay low wages. So you must never think to yourself that you will choose to work from home and have lots of advantages such as no travelling and no fares plus great wages too. You will not be able to have the best of both Worlds. You have to offset the advantages of working from home plus the disadvantages that go with it. I know people who spend 3 hours travelling to work and 3 hours coming back again after work, losing 6 hours a day to travelling and this is time they do not get a penny for. If you are stuck at home looking after a baby or elderly relative then you may as well do some work and earn something as do not work and earn nothing and there is no reason why you cannot do several work from home opportunities and blend them together. I know several people who have given up very well paid careers and now happily work from home as typists earning a lot less, but they consider it worthwhile because they are their own boss, or choose which hours and days they work and do not bother the rest of the time, and sometimes they were fed up with travelling to and from work too.

Working from home of any type can be lonely and it might not suit some people who love to be surrounded by and with people all the time. But if we are looking at things in a practical and financial way then it is worth doing if you can afford to live in a lower wage or are working as a typist to increase your income. Perhaps your husband is at work all day as the main breadwinner and you are at home with the children and what you earn is a very handy extra, but it would not cover the bills on its own. You do need to be disciplined though and treat it as work and not something you do for half an hour here and there reluctantly, otherwise at the end of the month you will have earnt so little you will lose interest. The best way is to work out a timetable of which hours you will work and when, knowing that the more hours you set aside for typing the more you will earn, and then making sure you stick to it no matter what. Do not make the mistake of telling your friends that you are at home so they all pop in for chats, they would not do that if you were working elsewhere because they would know you cannot be interrupted and disturbed when busy with work, and it should be the same if it is the time set aside for working from home.

Speaking from personal experience here, I can say, with conviction, no. My mom has owned a medical transcription company based out of our home for the past 10 years. I have seenthe change. 10 years ago business was excellent. She typed for many doctors, she had a partner, employees, and very good income. Over time we have seen that change. Business is so light now that she works on her own, and there is just enough, but even that is slacking. There may be temporary opportunity, even for a few years, however it would be better to find a typing job in a hospital or in a secretarial position, rather than getting started from home. Many companies and hospitals require expensive equipment to be bought, and they don't usually provide it. When you type from home many times you are a sub-contractor, searching for your own work, or using a transcription firm to fnd work for you. My mother types for hospitals across the country, but the business is drying up. More and more hospitals are find it cheaper to use in house staff, and voice recognition software is rapidly becoming more and more sophisticated. In years past when someone asked my mom for help in getting a job, she would happily train them to transcribe, allow them to work for her for a while, and eventually help them find a position through a transcription firm. Now however, she tells people that it would be better to find a different position. The hay day of transcription has past. The market is drying up, and it isn't because of the economy, but rather the increase in technology and hospitals use of in house staff. This article deals mainly with medical transcription, however my mother's business has included several law firms, however they too have lost the need to have out side transcription. Another downside to transcription from home is the hours. My mom works from early in the morning to late at night to make her now small income from transcription. Many transcription firms supply a competitive source of typing, in other words, it is more like first come first served. Because of the lack of business she has begun creating a new business, though she has loved doing transcription from home she has realized that it is time to move on. If you have the skills for transcription and think it is something you would like to do, look for a position in a business. Though you may not be working from home it will give you flexible hours and probably good pay. Though you may be able to find temporary work from home, you'd be much better advised to look for something else.
