Like it or not, Dear Reader, if there truly is a National Emergency, both men and women will be drafted into the military. We came very close to this measure when the President started a war in Iraq, but the majority of, "We People of the United States of America," saw that war for what it really is and many politicians rejected the idea of a draft at this time.
What will our politicians do the next time the young people of our once great Nation are again called upon to defend all that we believe? Your guess is as good as mine, but as sure as I am writing this story, there will come a time when our volunteer army will not be enough to stop a determined enemy.
Then again, the current Republican Administration, in the opinion of many people, have not acted in a responsible manner. No doubt, when the current people within the White House are replaced, chances are that some of them will get a new home within a Federal prison for using the resources of the people and the Government of the United States of America for their own private war against people who continue to support the secret agenda of the richest people on Earth. That might or might not be true and I sincerely hope that those elected politicians did act in the best interests of the majority.
Clearly, someone has to pay for the huge waste of our Nation's resources so that the huge multinational corporations of the World can obtain more natural resources and exploit cheap labor markets within every area of our World. Those truly rich and greedy people simply want to use our armies as World policemen to put all of those protesters away forever. Sooner or later We People will get wise to that idea and take some positive action against such behavior, including the current batch of "Yes People" within the Government of the United States of America, whose elections were bought and paid for by the owners and controllers of each and everyone of the multinational corporations.
They are the real problem that now faces the people of the entire World. I wonder, who in their right mine would go to war for the defense of big business, instead of for the protection of our families and Country? It would seem that we were tricked into the current war, but I truly hope that such a thing does not happen again.
Our relations with the other major Nations were never strained more than they now are. The next World War will take several years in order to become a shooting war. Yes, it seems that the current Republican Administration is now well on its way to such a World conflict. We People, on the other hand, need to take control of the situation before things get even worse than they are and restore our World image before it is too late.
You better believe that if World War III begins, every person who has two arms and two legs will be pressed into the battle in some capacity, just like they were when we entered World War II. May the truth be known for the good of the majority.

Forced military service in the United States will not return for the current engagement in Iraq, and, in my opinion, will never be seen in the US again. Two main problems stem from the reinstitution of the draft - the discontent amongst the American population and the adverse effect on the effectiveness of the military.
The military draft was first instituted in the United States in 1862 by the Confederate States of America. The draft was most recently used in America's engagement with Vietnam. If the military draft were ever to be reinstated in the US, the public would turn sour on the cause entirely. As seen in Vietnam, public opinion on the war plummeted once the draft was instituted, and we all know what happens when public opinion sways against the conflict. When America sees on the news men they know the local plumber, butcher, and mailman being shipped to a far-away place against their will, the feeling will automatically be that of sorrow and resentment. This is especially true in America where a man is able to carve his own in the world and decide for himself. This is not to say, however, that men should not do their patriotic duty to this country; only that the decision should be only theirs, and not that of the government.
Another problem with the reinstitution of the draft is that it will adversely affect the military's morale and effectiveness. Think of doing something you don't want to do. It can be anything. The effort given to the task is lackluster and not the result is not as good as if may have been otherwise. This is how men will perform once drafted, against their will, into the military. Men who are gentle by nature and plenty of them get drafted will simply not perform military tasks to the standard that a volunteer would. This lackluster performance will hinder the officers' job to make tough decisions which ultimately will hurt the rate of success. Due to this, the military should stay an all volunteer force. Someone who volunteers for the military will perform to the best of his ability because he believes in the cause and wants to fight.
