I LOVE ME SOME PEREZ! Using Perez's slangy style of quips, I now voice my affection for the gutsiest guy on the Web. For years Perez has been brutally honest on his blog, enduring lawsuits, evil looks, and (possibly) some physical abuse from angry stars. Every gossip website owes Perez-he started it all.

There have been gossip-related websites in the past. But Perez Hilton, by blogging and using his personal opinions (not to mention his drawings), has made celeb-related gossip more entertaining. I read his blog because it is far more interesting than the plain gossip itself. Perez Hilton spices up the run of the mill scandal with his insights.

Perez Hilton's sources are solid; he does not post unless he can back up the gossip with facts. He has won every lawsuit because he never posts slander. I use his site for the hottest information on the Presidential candidates. It links up nicely with other reputable sources on the Web. I find what I want to know quickly.

Believe it or not, Perez's site has heart. He is strongly family-oriented with traditional values. I believe his mother raised a man who knows morality. Yes, he is gay. He is refreshing that he acknowledges that promiscuity is not conducive to good family life. Children are rarely mocked, and only if the parents have been parading them around to be skewered. (yes, Miley Cyrus, I mean you) He is what my mother's generation would call a "good son". Perez is a softy inside and tough as nails on the exterior. He calls it like he sees it, and he does it to remind people of morality.

Perez uses his website to promote good causes. Almost daily he posts a worthy charity with a donation link. A loving "dog-dad", he shows off his pet, the adorable Teddy Hilton (who is neutered). He champions the rights of animals and children. Perez is himself a kind and goofy person who is trying to use his incredibly popular site for good.

Finally, he is comfortable mocking himself. He has always posted his own failings and goofiness. The video he recently did of himself and his dog trying on wigs was a hoot. He also started a new diet and exercise plan this year which he was very honest about. Perez Hilton will someday outgrow his site and move on to do other good works in the world. He is a tireless promoter who has charm and a way to excite people about things. Oh, and I am "katfish" on Perez's forum, so feel free to skewer me as well.

Hate

"Perez Hilton" doesn't seem to understand that it doesn't matter how effeminate he is. or pretends to be, and it doesn't matter what his private practices are. He is still an adult, but he prefers to act like a 12 year old girl. He draws mustaches or even worse on the pictures of celebrities, he writes vulgar phrases over their faces and just generally acts like an immature junior high school student. And he seems to think this is part of being a homosexual, that somehow, that makes it all right for him to act wildly immature, catty and irresponsible. He is not a child-I believe he's actually in his thirties. He acts irresponsibly. His facts are quite dubious and anyone getting their information from him about show business (if there are such people)should understand this.

Apparently, since the business of show business has become too diversified, someone like "Perez Hilton" giving out misinformation, even slanderous information, can do so unchecked. In the 1950's, the more centralized studio powers were able to shut down through legal action scandalous magazines who were giving out fraudulent, damaging facts. Apparently, that can't be done these days, The few individuals who are so outraged by false stories about themselves and take legal action usually end up with very little to show for their troubles except a large lawyer bill. So there is apparently no legal remedy for the type of inaccurate gossip which "Perez Hilton" usually gives out. Somehow, the various media shows on which he appears don't have the judgement to avoid him and it would seem that they don't bother to check and see what he actually produces on his website. Fact checking apparently doesn't exist for "Perez Hilton" and any gossip is just assumed to be true and he reports it as such. One can only hope that the other media outlets which like to claim journalistic integrity, including the cable news netwerks, who go to him for explanations of show business issues don't cover "serious" news with the same leve of shoddiness.

I suppose the argument will be made that no one should care what happens on his website. Celebrities are overly pampered anyway and what's the big deal if someone spreads false rumors about them. That may be true for some celebrities, but it's not true for all of them. Many are young and confused and most all of them are dealing with issues in their lives like the rest of us. They usually have more money, which helps them deal with some of their problems, but not all of them. Perez Hilton simply capitalizes not just on the problems of celebrities, but also the jealousy of his readers towards those more successful in life. "Perez Hilton" himself is in that position. It shouldn't be too much to ask of him to act like a man, even if he doesn't really want to be one.
