Perfect timing for this question to come up. I am in the process of up-dating my kitchen and putting new flooring in our home. I have shopped around on-line and in-store. I have found, for me, Home Depot had the choices I was looking for. We were very fortunate to get a good sales representative to help us through the process.
I chose laminate flooring for my home. Part of it is down and looks beautiful. The laminate I picked for our bathrooms, kitchen and hallway, is made by Allure at a very reasonable price. I also decided on the, oak, laminate wood look flooring for my dining room and living room. The dining room is finished and what a difference this flooring has made in my home. It is beautiful with my oak furniture. With all the things I had to chose from and my budget, Home Depot has worked with me to be able to achieve my goal.
I am now in the process of painting my kitchen with paint I bought at Home Depot. I bought it there because, the young gentleman behind the counter at the paint station, was so helpful to me. I explained to him what I would like and he made suggestions to me. It did not take long to get my paint color picked and mixed. I will be painting tomorrow. I did shop in other stores, but, never seemed to be able to find anyone knowledgeable enough or willing enough to help me. This young man was very willing and able to help. I bought the paint on the spot.
My son came to our home today and tore my kitchen out. Now it is my turn to clean and paint. Next will come my new cabinets and pantry cupboard that I got from Home Depot. I chose base and wall cabinets in oak. I also purchased a new range and exhaust system for over the range.
I have to go back to chose my new kitchen sink and faucet. Home Depot was so nice to us,while we were deciding what we wanted to purchase and this is why we did decide to purchase all of our items from them. There was another deciding factor and I had never heard of it before.
When someone purchases a large amount of items for their home, Home Depot, puts the entire order under a SKU number, then they submit this order to a "Bid Room". Prices are checked in this bid room against other merchants, then the lowest price is entered into the purchasers order. When this process is completed the person purchasing or "myself", in this case, saves a considerable about of cash. I also was fortunate enough to get 12 months same as cash, because of my purchase.
I appreciate the way, Home Depot, has worked with us to achieve my hopes of having a new kitchen without going over what we could afford. We are on a fixed income and this was a real help to us. I am so anxious to see the finished project. I am also fortunate to have a son who formally was employed as a contractor. He is doing all of the work for us at no charge. This was the only way we could have afforded to get this much work done. Labor cost would have put us over the top and we would not have been able to purchase the things needed for this big makeover at our home.
I am fortunate Home Depot was so willing to help us achieve this project. I love having my family around and my grand-son has already requested a special dinner when my kitchen is done and my new range arrives. I promised him, I would cook his special dinner first.
My son and his family will be here to enjoy the food and the new beauty of my kitchen,
living room, dining room and bathrooms, at the same time, my son, can admire his beautiful workmanship.
I will be enjoying the improvements made in my home for many years to come. Each time I awake in the morning to see how nice my home looks, I will think of my son, and, of course, "Home Depot".

Lowe's is by far the better money saver for both the contractor and the do-it-yourselfer. Their organization, selection, and customer service have been better, in my opinion, than their competition.
The layout of their store is generally logical and easy to navigate. Isles are clearly labeled and merchandise is normally where it belongs, not out in the middle of the floor or in a completely unrelated department. Merchandise is arranged like a department store, neat and orderly. I would describe walking into a Home Depot like entering a garage sale in a warehouse. Nothing is put up, the hand lettered signs are hard to read, and the whole floor is in a general state of disorder. Your time is wasted as soon as you enter the building.
I want to be able to get in, get what I need and leave, not spend an hour wandering around in a circus funhouse. In Lowes, product comparison is easy. They have a variety of brands neatly displayed side-by-side with the prices listed clearly. Their displays have coordinates to tell you where to find the product on the shelf if you want to buy it. If the product has a brochure, it is either next to the product or at the main desk in the department.
The staff is generally pleasant and informed about most of their products. If you have questions, they can either tell you the answer, look it up, or ask someone higher in their food chain. Because Lowes emphasizes organization and cleanliness, employees have a harder time getting away with incompetence or rudeness. Managers are easy to find and eager to please. In the worst case scenario, I will tell you for a fact that their customer service hotline, 1-800-44-LOWES, will generate results.
These three things, as well as the frequent sales and great clearance prices, make Lowes the better bargain both in time and money. You might find somethings cheaper at Home Depot, but you will not find them easily, clean, or in a timely manner.
