Will water become more valuable than oil?
Water, the universal solvent, IS more valuable than oil, and will be till "if and when" petrol flows through our veins. I suppose that if we higher mammals all went bionic, that could become possible, but there's a boundary even techno-science would shy away from crossing - besides, wouldn't such a technology favor "green alternatives" for juicing up cyborgs?
Hmmm, maybe that's why sci-fi aliens are so often depicted as having green blood. Consider the possibilities: solar-powered humans (we're half way there), wind-powered people (with the way we already flatulate, it would be a breeze), alcohol driven cyborgs (sounds familiar already) ... oh, and singing the body electric! But a human body composed of over 50 percent oil? I don't think so, but it would give a whole new dimension to the euphemism "slippery character".
Water is and always will be more valuable than oil, though perhaps not in dollars and cents - yet. Since water has a "cycle" that routinely replenishes the planetary aquifers, unlike fossil fuels which are in limited supply, it is fossil fuels that will most likely continue commanding big bucks.
Fresh, clean, drinking water is in high demand though. I already spend about $20 per week on bottled water for a household of four. We will NOT drink town water as long as Poland Spring is available for about $1 per jug - heck, I'll even spend $2 a gallon. What comes out of the "faucet" smells and tastes like chlorine - and goodness knows what else may be in it other than H2O.
Occasionally (especially before a brutal storm forecast) the supermarket shelves are completely sold-out of the precious, good stuff. Being known to panic without my bottled spring water, like so many other folks today, I stock up ahead of time!
Town water raises too many questions - for instance, we could all be guinea pigs in some government conspiracy to test the effects of chemical or germ warfare on the general public. Think - it's so easy to add fluoride to piped-in water, with or without public consent - just imagine what they could get away with adding next ... in the interest of "Homeland Security" they could get away with almost anything. Would we even know, until it's too late?
For goodness' sake, they could add nanobots to the aquifer in the interest of making us a bionic race "for our own good" - to step up evolution, fight the war on "terrorism" - or simply to test the effect of nanobots on the general public! Would we even notice till we suddenly get an uncanny craving for OIL in our diets?
Now about that oil ... I do need my recommended 64 ounces a day! Will somebody PLEASE "grease my palms" - oh, and do pass the can while you're at it.
