Will water become more valuable than oil?
Just a Sip
This debate is absurdly late for civilized people.
Water is already more valuable than oil. Something new? No. It has been more valuable since the dawn of civilization.
Oil can be priced at a million dollars per barrel but compared to water and life itself, oil is worthless.
Oil is handy stuff. Your Hummer H3 can use oil, as can your Ford or Cadillac, your Rolls-Royce or your kid's school bus. Heat your home with it. Make plastic. Endless ways to use it, even just burn it'.
It is handy stuff, no doubt about that.
Your personal physical requirements, however, are a completely different matter. No matter how much oil you have, you will die within 7 days without water; sooner in many instances.
Cut to the chase. Recognize and tell the Truth. Remove the blinders from the rich, the powerful, Big Oil, and Bigger Money. Chief Executive Officers everywhere need to answer this question:
"How many days would YOU like to survive, people?"
Human beings cannot drink oil, yet they greedily place a 'dollar' value upon that commodity because of the perception that 'Commerce' actually means something. Oil is a means to the end, the end' is money, he who has the most money and the most toys wins' - truer words have never been spoken for the rich, for to them, greed is more important than life itself.
Unless they happen to find themselves thirsty -and there IS no water to drink.
Water is essential to all life forms; yet humanity disregards the fact that world supplies of potable water, -meaning the water that is drinkable are rapidly diminishing world-wide because of pollutants created by our 'civilization'.
The so-called 'Greenhouse' effect, the heating of the Earth itself, is a fact that many people would 'prefer not to believe' because they might have to change their lifestyle to one that is just a little less luxurious. The hotter the globe becomes, the more difficult it becomes to maintain adequate potable water supplies to world populations. Climate change. A different' debate?
The Greenhouse effect is not merely an 'inconvenient truth' as some call it. The globe is heating up, evidence is everywhere with ancient glaciers disappearing and rivers drying up; it does not matter whether you personally believe it or NOT.
Rich civilization is in denial'. A perfect euphemism for selective blindness'.
After all, if one prefers not to change, and chooses not to see the problem, it must not exist'.
Put blame aside for the moment, it is too inconvenient to even think about it. Truth hurts. Facts and statistics are unreasonable things for a hedonistic money-oriented society to deal with.
After the fact, and when, not if, there is a worldwide and tragic shortage of potable water, does it really matter that anyone was right or wrong or what the cause was whether it be man made or natural? "It's convenient to use that as an excuse. Let's deal with it when we get there."
Too late. We are there.
People die every day for lack of potable water. They don't need Hummers, iced cappuccino or oil at ANY price. What they did need to prevent them from dying was a drink of WATER.
Just a sip. Priceless.
Shortages of potable water already exist.
Not at "some time in the future" when our rich civilization will no longer exist, and long after the supplies of OIL have run out -but NOW.
In the deserts of the world there are huge tracts of land that have absolutely no water.
Virtually NO rainfall all year. The deserts are expanding. Temperate lands everywhere are becoming drier. Let us totally ignore the requirement of water for the production of food.
Third world countries already live in the harsh daily reality of inadequate clean drinking water.
Meantime, living in the bliss of informed, but in total ignorance of fact and reality,- clean, fresh, valuable water is flushed down badly designed plumbing, poured onto the grass so that it can be 'green', and polluted with salt and dirt from the road in car washes everywhere. After all, our Hummers and Cadillacs must be shiny. It is important that expensive vehicles be shiny. Status, wealth.
Water is wasted at ever-increasing, obscene rates and polluted even faster. Pour chemicals on to the same grass while you're at it. Pollute the water, no mind, the grass needs to be 'green'. Live for today. Be Happy. For tomorrow you shall thirst.
Industry, worldwide, continues to use clean surface water to 'make money' in the endless pursuit of greed and commerce - -and returns the water unfit for any use to the environment. An endless argument, justification, denial of fact and responsibility to society.
Only in the end shall we learn.
Paradoxically, water is used to process oil. Use water-that is ultimately priceless, and pollute it-to produce oil worth absolutely nothing when you are dying of thirst.
Yes, even to the richest of the rich one day water will become more valuable than oil

In this article I am responding to the article that states that as long as we use oil to purify our water then oil will be more valuable. It is this opinion that I would like to address for I work in the development of new technologies that use something rather than oil to purify water. One of those is the Plasma Incubator Reactor system that has been developed to purify the water coming from the drilling of natural gas wells in Texas where companies such as Devon Energy is drilling up to 27 new wells every month. They encountered a problem when they started throwing over 100,000 barrels of water down these wells in order to fracture the Barnett Shale which is where the gas is held in that zone. When the gas starts to come back to the surface it forces this water ahead of it and here is the problem. These companies use a chlorine tablet much like the ones you throw into your swimming pool and this combines with the sodium in the ground and produces salt water that is 5 times more salty than the Gulf of Mexico. This technology does not use any carbon based products to purify this water, instead it destroys up to 500 gallons of this water and by doing so it produces free Hydrogen as a gas. Some of this is extracted through a special valve and a vacuum system that transfers this gas to another water filled tank on the back of a flat bed trailer. Here the gas is forced into a 3" by 10" plastic "cork" of sorts and as the gas goes in the cork rises from the bottom of the tank. Attached to the cork under the tank is a rotor that is attached to a rod through the bottom of the tank and this is moving up and down between two permanent stators which makes it a generator. However, this is not like any generator you have ever seen before because the rotor does not rotate, instead it moves up and down 18 times a minute and by doing so in the presence of very strong Permanent Magnets it creates electricity which is collected on a special panel on the side of the trailer and these electric charges are transferred to a transformer which gathers them into usuable electric current and sends them back to the Plasma Reactor and furnishes the power for it to operate. This is a closed loop system and depending on how much electricity is needed determines how many trailer mounted water filled tanks are placed into play at the site.
This is technology that you can hang your hat on when it comes to producing energy without using a petroleum product. Devon Energy has contracted to use one of these units on each of its 27 natural gas drilling rigs running around Texas and punching holes so that we can have more natural gas for the east coast to use in winter.
