It is theoretically possible that global warming could cause more earthquakes, due to the melting of the polar ice caps, and the redistribution of weight worldwide. Back when the three gorges dam was starting to be built, some scientists warned that the weight of the water being held behind the dam could cause earthquakes in the region.

Likewise, the melting of the ice caps is going to relieve some of the weight that is now stored in the form of millions of tons of ice. In turn, due to the centrifugal forces created by the earths rotation, this water will be redistributed to the equatorial region which will increase the pressure on the sea floors around the world.

This accompanied with lunar influences could lead to an increase of seismic events worldwide. All of this will be slow to occur of course, but with the polar ice caps melting at a faster rate than scientists predicted, we could theoretically see this beginning by time the sea level raises fifteen feet.

That much water weight would increase stress on faults on the ocean floor, especially in subduction zones like the Cascadia Subduction Zone located off the coast of Oregon, Washington, and Canada. These earthquakes would be devastating to large cities even hundreds of miles away from the ruptured area, and seaside communities would be endangered by massive tsunami's all along the pacific rim.

This subject will have to be studied more by geologists over the coming years to decide just how much of a threat this could be.

To be straight to the point. The earth's crust is always moving. You will not feel it move below your feet. The only time you do. When a big shift of the crust hits together. That causes an earthquake. What I can't understand is why others are calling it Global Warming? When the land on the earth at one time was all together. Then the land started to move away from one another. Until you see where the land is today. Every time earthquake happens. The earth's crust moves apart. But when there is an earthquake over 8. You will see a weather and climate changes. You can go back into time and see where your state that you live in now. Could have been covered in water, ice, or even was not even present to be seen? Global warming has nothing to do with earthquakes.

There is no such thing as Global Warming in my book. People ask why are the ice cabs melting? It's right there in black and white. Even from the beginning of time. But others want to put a word to what is happening. To make it sound like something it is not. Then they can blame something for what is going on. It has got to the point. That almost everyone is blaming Global Warming. A lot can be said about Al Gore and what he has stated. Al Gore has lost the true meaning on how the earth's land has been made and why California is moving toward Japan.

To answer why the ice cabs are melting is because the land masses are moving about .013 cm a year. With the land masses moving to new locations. Yes, ice is going to melt if the land mass is moving to a hotter location even if it is only 2 degrees warmer. Just like a rock in a stream. You put a rock into a stream of water. After one year. You will see that rock gets smoother.

The Bible even states that we will have more earthquakes, death weather, lose of lives, and so much more. Our earth's crust is changing and moving every day. Global Warming is the only thing that scientists and people can blame. One reason why is because no one can stop it. Scientists are making more wind mills in the ocean to slow down global warming. In years to come with the earth's crust moving and earthquakes from the crust hitting crust. The wind mills are going to be in some one's back yard some day. Later on your fresh water will be salt water because of the earth's crust is always moving. I feel that scientists should come out with ways better ways to turn salt water into fresh water without going through boiling, catching the steam, then waiting for the steam to turn into fresh water droplets, and then finding a container to catch all the droplets just to get fresh water to live off.

Before Scientists and Al Gore gets up there to say that earthquakes are one of the effects to Global Warming. I feel they should all go back to the chalk board and start again.
