It's quite clear to me that the people within the news media are trying to warn, "We People of the United States of America," that fuel prices are again rising to levels that will most certainly cause a World-Wide depression. Yes, many economic experts have said as much and those news media people wouldn't panic the Public in such a way if the facts were false and all of those experts were wrong.
Then again, the news media has caused many of us to wonder why those fuel prices are rising to such unbelievable levels. Is that nothing more than legalized price gouging? Is it just a clever trick by those huge multinational oil companies to suck the wealth out of every one?
Yes, Dear Reader, you better believe that is exactly what those oil people are doing. So too, they have also fueled the fires of greed that those market investors are famous for. Like it or not, those investors put their money into markets that can make the most money in the shortest possible time. So, they all buy oil futures and then watch the market pressure force up the price. When they decide that the market will go no higher, they sell out and take huge profits. So too, they can sell short and watch the same market pressure force down the price. Either way, they make a whole lot of money, without regard to what those high prices will eventually do to the hard working and honest people within our society.
Where are our elected politicians when we truly need their help? Your guess is as good as mine, but at least we have the news media to thank for showing all of us the greedy plot and extortion that is being committed by the richest, most greedy, most heartless, most selfish and self-serving people on Earth. Who will you vote for in 2008?

Wouldn't it be nice to lay the blame for rising gasoline prices at the feet of the mostly liberal news media. As a former network television producer, I can tell you, they are fed their stories. The media is no more resistant to the old adage "Garbage in, garbage out" than any other information outlet in the world.
The media and the talking heads that represent networks are conduits for information that is sent over various news wires. These public pawns pass on information that someone behind the curtain wants us to hear. It could be our government, it could be oil cartels, it could be any number of sources.
Producers typically arrive hours before the broadcast, and scour electronic news feeds, newspapers, and other reports available to them to determine which stories are going to grasp viewers' attention. This is why, as you flip from channel to channel during the news hour, you'll likely see about 90% of the stories repeated on multiple networks. Occasionally, an investigative reporter, full of zeal, pride and ambition, will tackle a story in greater depth, hoping for a coveted award or promotion. But, all in all, the stories are relatively similar.
Unfortunatel y, in their quest for ratings (the first rule of television news..if it bleeds, it leads) they do often color the information. So, we don't necessarily get the news in it's purest form. Still, they are not setting up the next increase, they are only warning us of it's impending coming because some government agency or oil producing nation has told them it is on the way. They really don't have power over international oil moguls - and therefore, have no say in gasoline prices.
