Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech, is an excellent player. However, being the product of a pass-happy system, he is not the best freshman in college football this year. That honor falls to one Knowshon Moreno, TB, of Georgia.
Moreno, with 1104 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, is already being compared to one of the greatest in Georgia Bulldogs history, Hershel Walker. Moreno joins Walker as the only freshmen in Bulldog history to rush for over 1000 yards. And the season isn't over.
He has run for over 100 yards the last four games, 5 times total for the season. He put up a 188 yard, 3 TD performance against national champion Florida, then followed that with 196 yards and another 3 TDs against aa tough Troy(6-3)team, highlighted by the longest TD run (80 yards)in ten years for Georgia.
Moreno is pretty much Georgia's offense, so putting up such numbers when the other team knows he is the one they need to stop makes his numbers that much more impressive. He has Georgia poised to make a run at the SEC Championship. Given the toughness and speed of the SEC, a freshman runner who can dominate in the conference the way Moreno has, deserves to be spoken of as the best freshman in college football.
