Fantasy Creatures are the creations of our dreams provoked by fear, ignorance, desire and primal urges. They come in many different shapes and sizes, sometimes possessing magical powers that aid mankind, sometimes not. Who or what these creatures and what roles they play in the lives of men is the subject of investigation, mystery, and legend around the world.

Every culture has a distinct mythology that embodies mythical beings that are capable of performing tasks beyond the abilities of a normal human. When we were young we were introduced to fairytale creatures, some romantic, some not. The existence of these creatures has been memorialized in popular literature. Over the past century, there have been countless new creatures created and firmly implanted in human consciousness from such sources as comic books, fantasy animations and wonderful classics like The Lord of the Ring, Harry Potter, Star Wars, and the X-Files, just to name a few. The source of all these creatures lies in the unbounded imagination of their human creators.

There are, exceptions, however. Some people will exclaim with certainty that they have witnessed the flight of a fairy, the footprints of little people, or elves, trolls, or what have you. Hunting for proof of ghosts has become so popular that you can watch dedicated believers on television several hours a night, from the safety and comfort of your living room. I'll leave the proof or the debunking of such things to those who are attempting to use technology to prove their case.

Some people would argue that it would be wiser in the long run to attempt to prove the existence of angels, demons, and the Holy Spirit before wasting their time on lesser creatures. After all, if you're going to question the existence of all fantasy creatures, you must include these entities, of greater of lesser significance to man, in the discussion. If I assert that fairy's exist or do not exist because of this or that reason, then I must assert the same for the existence of angels and their counterpart demons. This is the stuff that mystery and fantasy is made of and it wells from the same depth within the human subconscious.

The argument for the religious is that faith, omnipresent in the Word, explains all and requires no explanation and no proof. To the scientist, however, proof is both tenable and elusive in dealing with all matters spiritual and supernatural. There are things present in the universe that are known and unknown, imagined and unimagined, foreseen and unforeseen. The universe is full of wonders, amazing and fearsome in many instances.

In our high-tech world, we are apt to imagine high-tech fantasy creatures everywhere. UFOs and alien creatures must exist, because we believe in fairies, ghosts, and other unexplained things, regardless of culture and literature. Aliens, therefore, are only fairies and elves dressed up for the modern age. The Unicorn is a UFO and Little Green Men are Leprechauns. And yes, there is a Santa Claus, only he (or she), will be arriving from the polar ice cap on Mars this year.

No, fantasy creatures do not really exist; hence the word fantasy. The concept of fantasy creatures, I will admit is fun, however fantasizing about such things do not make them real. To fantasize is using imagination; it is creating a nonliving concept in which the imaginer is the holder of every aspect of the fantasy. To believe fantasies are real is to believe in anything any person could possibly conjure up in their minds. Fantasy creatures are not real no matter how real they seem to have become in our modern world.

In our modern world fantasy creatures live in just about everything we watch, read, and play. A lot of movies bring fantasies to life: Harry Potter, Bridge to Taribithia, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, The Mentalist, and of course the X-Files among so many more bring our fantasies to life. Role playing video games such as World of War Craft and Final Fantasy, Dungeons and Dragons, and the list goes on, in these games you can become wizards, Magi's, some sort of speaking animal, and any other creature you can imagine. My point is just because people can read about these creatures, and watch these creatures, and even play at being fantasy creatures this does not make them real. They are still concepts of someones imagination.

I do not believe in ferries, unicorns, elves, leprechauns, or anything else that has jumped out of the pages of some persons writings and imagination. These creatures are fun to read about and watch on television, and I enjoy role playing games in which you get to become a character out of someones imagination. But, none of these activities make these fantasy creatures real, they are still fantasy. Vampires are not real, Dracula was a regular man who killed people, not to drink their blood, but to kill them. The vampire sprang to life within the imagination of a regular man who was probably telling a story for entertainment purposes. Healthy imaginations and fantasies play productive roles in the world and the not so healthy play evil roles in the world

Some people do find ways to bring their imaginations to life in products of innovations and useful products for the world. If Ben Franklin didn't use his imagination for his inventions just think how dark the world would be. Many fantasies are healthy and can be productive. Other fantasies such as the ones psychopaths live out are just plain evil. Evil is not a fantasy it exist in the world and is thriving. Most fantasies however, are fun and they are meant to have fun with and expand individual imaginations. They are not meant to believe in and get so caught up in a person isn't able to live a regular life. Fantasy creatures are meant for fun not to spend a life time searching for. Having an imagination is a healthy aspect of being human. Fantasizing can be creative and fun but fantasy creatures are just that "fantasy", they are not real.
