Fact-based
Global warming itself is clearly a fact based analysis of our environmental affairs. Its effects which can be seen with our naked eye are all around us. Hurricanes, Tsunamis, the plight of the polar bear global warming is everywhere we look.
I have noticed in my lifetime the effects and have seen probably about what the average person has seen regarding it before I saw this movie. Al Gore did not stand there making claims, he spend two hours showing you statistic after statistic, verified weather patterns, sophisticated prediction models. He then took each point and broke it down into terms that the most unsophisticated person could understand. Do I believe he did this movie for self promotion? No, I believe this is a cause he holds strongly in his heart and he has been telling this story for a long time. He likely thought the presidency would help him deliver the message. That didn't work so a movie that appealed to the masses was plan B.
Some are quick to dismiss information being presented to them based on what they believe to be true. We were warned the levees would not hold up, we were warned the infrastructure of this country was failing, we were warned Bin Laden wanted to kill lots of Americans. We need to stop ignoring things we are told and just expecting things to work themselves out. We have to fix them, they will not fix themselves.
Kudos to Al Gore for keeping this important topic in front of us and presenting it in a format that would appeal to a larger audience.
