I tend to agree that the so called COT is not worthy of Nascar. But I only agree, For The Moment! I absolutely believe that the current car of Nascar will improve by the middle of next year! The introduction of this car has failed on several different front's, but the one that was the most important, Driver Safety, has improved dramatically! Given for example was the crash by Michael McDowell in practice. This was, without a doubt, one of the worst crashes I personally have ever seen in Nascar! Bar None! Most long-term Nascar fans will agree. The result of that crash? McDowell got out of this mangled car, under his own power with nothing more than a sprained ankle! If you were looking for a testament for the cars safety. This was it!

In my opinion. The introduction of the new restrictor plates has caused the largest part of the failure's with the COT. With the new car being wider and taller, the reduction of outright horse power, is the root cause of most of the bad press that's been generated by the performance of the car, this year! Let's not forget the importance of that fact, when we look at the performance of the COT!

In all truth. When you listen to most of the olde-time drivers such as Darrell Waltrip and Rusty Wallace. Their comments are that the car is a great deal like the cars of the seventies. According to people who ought to know what they're talking about. These Championship Drivers say it put's winning, back in the hands of the drivers. Instead of being beaten by a better car. According to these past champion's. This car is for the better for all the Real Driver's, that are currently in the sport.

In other word's. This seem's to be a difference of opinion, in a major way, depending on who you talk to in the Garage Area, of any Nascar track! So, as far as I'm concerned. The verdict is still out on the COT. I'm willing to give this car one more year before I condemn it as a total failure! With all the fantastic chassis and engine engineer's that are currently employed by the teams in Nascar, they ought to be able to bring the speed and stability up to pre-COT levels. If not by the end of the Nascar season in 2009. Then I will agree that the car is a failure!

I personally have been a Nascar fan since the late seventies. I have seen literally hundreds of changes in the sport. Some were good. Some were bad. But inevitably, the end result was what turned out better for the fan! That is my hope and belief, at this point in time. So let's not write of the COT just yet! If I know the people of Nascar. They will do whatever is necessary to bring the glory of Nascar, back to where it needs to be. Number one, on our television screen!

As a long time fan of NASCAR I have to admit that the Car of Tomorrow has made the racing more competitive, which is what racing is all about. A lot of people still complain about the restrictor plates that were implemented after many injuries and even deaths related to the speeds these drivers were racing at. But with time, it has been proved that restrictor plates have made racing safer, and I myself love watching the restrictor plate races.

The Car of Tomorrow does seem to handle the force of impact better then the old cars, but time will tell just how safe these cars really are. As far as the racing goes, it has been amazing how evenly matched these cars are now, taking the car out of the equation, and putting the drivers skill at racing in the forefront.

As we all watched this season, we saw the best and most skilled drivers in the business, win time and again. Although I myself am not a Jimmy Johnson, or Jeff Gordon Fan, I had to watch these two drivers compete to win the Nextel Cup. Bringing the COT into racing will benefit all the drivers in the long run, reducing wreck related injuries, and making racing safer for all.

There is a lot of nostalgia associated with racing and NASCAR, where raw horsepower was the only way to win. I myself miss those days and that type of racing but with time everything changes, and like the restrictor plates, eventually the COT will be proven worthy of NASCAR racing.
