Joke

The rock and roll hall of fame is a legit joke. Giving out an award to a band 25 years after it made its first record is a waste of time. Why does a band that has been around for a very long time and probably should have retired a long time ago, such as The Rolling Stones, why do they need to be rewarded?
Of course people will argue that they were a great band that made great songs and revolutionized the music industry. Okay, fine they were great in the sixties and I'll give the Stones credit for keeping the music going in the seventies, but once they reached the eighties, they should have just faded away into oblivion with their millions and their groupies and had a nice party.
Why do bands that for the most part have made millions, need someone to remind them how wonderful they are or were, by giving them yet another award to put in a special room in their mansion? What difference does it make to be awarded for being an old musician? Are we supposed to bow our heads like they have suddenly become the Pope, and kiss their feet?
Some acts that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, have inducted, were awesome in their time, and deserve the recognition, such as The Pretenders, Van Halen, Prince, The Dave Clark Five, and James Brown. But some acts that should have been awarded by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been completely ignored and probably never will be inducted to the rock and roll Hall of Fame. Bands such as INXS, Def Leppard, Bad Company, and Duran Duran, have been together for many years, and were never recognized for their talent.
It just seems like many bands, artists and contributors have been inducted because they have sold so many records, such as AC/DC selling well over a million records. Duran Duran has sold at least that many, so why haven't they been recognized? People the world over debate every year on who should be inducted into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame, and many don't agree on the bands and artists inducted.
Do we really need an old timers recognition hall of fame for acts that were great in their day, but haven't been heard from in many years? It's very much like having the Academy Awards coming up with an awards show every year for old time actors that have been around for many years. The Guild could even dedicate a special museum for all actors who have made millions and been in the entertainment industry for thousands of years. Can you say boring? Big yawns abound.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is just another institution to put old bands in for selling so many records and making a contribution to society. Just think of this scary scenario: An older, not wiser, Britney Spears wearing a short dress, with breasts pushed up as far as they go, thanking the Hall of Fame for giving her this wonderful award.

Music has always been considered a very important part of our culture. Over time, there has been many bands and artists who have created influential songs and have impacted music and even the lives of millions of people over and over again. Whether you're rocking out to a classic band like AC/DC, relaxing to the more psychedelic melodies of The Beatles, or jamming out to the more southern vocals of Johnny Cash, everyone has their favorites. Music, no matter what kind of genre, style, or rhythm, is one of the most beautiful and impacting ways to show self expression. Which is why the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is not only legitimate, but very significant.
Every band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has a reason for being there, and has a right to be. Just because most of them have not been making music for a few years doesn't change this. No matter when they were making music, they were heavily impacting not only the genre but the way many people listened and viewed music. More importantly, most of these bands still live on today even in the younger generations, passed down like inherited gifts. Kids still jam out to many of the classic rock bands that currently reside in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as do their parents. They may not be making current music, but they still live on through us.
Something this everlasting deserves to be recognized, as much as sports, athletes, movies, actors, directors, or even Olympic gold medalists. People who are influenced by or simply love the music of these bands practically feel proud when getting to see that their favorite artists are getting the recognition they are owed. It is exactly like when our favorite movie wins the Academy Award for Best Film; we get excited because we know how much they deserve to be rewarded for making something so entertaining.
For those who believe that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a waste of time or should not be taken seriously, that's okay because they don't have to visit or look it up on the website or watch in the future as bands are inducted into the Hall of Fame; they can feel free to continue pretending like it doesn't exist or that it isn't that important. Everyone has an opinion. But it won't change the way we feel about music and how important it is to us that our favorite bands that have impacted our lives and made a difference in many ways, culturally especially, get inducted into one of the most important Hall of Fame's there is.
