Money trumps health every time in professional sports. When you add money to the fact that you love the particular sport you are involved in then health is a distant issue. This question is not just relegated to wrestling there are many grueling professional sports like football, hockey, race car driving and so on. People get into these sports because they love the sport.
You ask any old wrestler or football player how they feel on any given day and you might be surprised that they hurt every day. Ask them too if they would trade any of it and they will say no way. They know what they are getting themselves into though I think that management does push a bit which is normal for any entertainment arena.
I realize that the recent deaths in the WWE are likely what is driving this debate and they are warranted. I was shocked when I heard of Benoit's death and was even more shocked as the events unfolded as the investigation progressed. While his death and that of his family was tragically unnecessary there were the same testimonies of friends and family that you hear whenever someone snaps and does something insane.
Any sport that puts the human body through the beating that wrestling does is going to negatively impact your health no matter how well you take care of yourself. Most of these people are not stupid or naive , they enter into the sport because they love it. Most don't even become stars or rich, still they go every night and abuse themselves until they aren't physically able to anymore. So it is obvious that health is not an issue to these people.
Truth be told money is only a small part of the equation at it's depth. Sure everyone hopes to become rich and famous but most people who start out in wrestling suffer long and with no money to show for it before they ever have anything but broken bones and concussions to show for it. So many never have anything but aches and pains to show for it. If you look at wrestling there are less than a hundred men and women who have really made it to stardom and even fewer who make it to super stardom which leaves thousands who fall by the wayside and to them health is then the issue because they are now hurt and have to live with the affects of all the abuse they put their bodies through

That this is a question surprises me, but then I am disabled. There is nothing more important than health, and certainly not money. In fact, without doubt, there is no amount of money that would repair my back, or make it possible for me to have a normal life. That makes it pretty useless next to health.
When I had my health, I will admit that I foolishly took it for granted. I believed that if I worked in a direction that had good intentions, I couldn't go wrong. I was wrong. The first time I fell, it was an accident - plain and simple. My feet hit ice, and went out from under me. In a heartbeat, I was on the driveway, straddling a small cement edging. I had to be carried inside. They 'fixed' me, using bone from my hips, and as I spent three long months in a body cast, no amount of money would have helped ease the pain or indignities associated with that time.
When it broke again, it almost broke me. Just the thought of having the surgery again made me cry. I hid it from my family. I wanted to be strong. It was the second time in five years that they would all put their lives on hold while financially everything went to hell because my income ground to a halt and we lived on credit cards. Still, with their love and support, I did go in again, and this time titanium replaced the bones that broke, holding me together at last. I confess to you here, I am in constant and unrelenting pain. I live on Morphine, and several others drugs not worth getting into. The point is that there is no dollar value I wouldn't give to have my health back. I would give any amount just to be able to do what most people take for granted, and even complain about. I would just love to be able to go to work full time or even part time again. Money can solve a great many issues, it`s true. The one issue that cannot be completely resolved with cold, hard, cash is health, and oddly it is the single thing that we take most for granted. We put off going to the doctor`s, unwilling to take the time off work. We tell ourselves we can`t afford it. Our health is the one thing we can`t buy. We can replace some of it, if we are extremely lucky and the conditions are right, but are you willing to bank your life on that?
Before you think about what is important in life, ask yourself, could you do it without the use of your legs. Could you do it if the pain was more than you could bear all of the time? Would you want to, even if you had a bunch of money? From experience... not me.
