What could be worse than discovering your child is missing? Every parent who has every had a moment when their child was not in sight can only imagine how horrific it would be to discover that your child is, indeed, not to be found anywhere.
And then to be accused of killing her and hiding the body. How much torture can the parents and family endure?
There is absolutely NO evidence that Kate & Gerry had anything to do in the disappearance of their sweet daughter, Madeleine. The Portugal press should be ashamed of themselves for the lies and rumors they have spread. They can't even stay consistant with their yellow journalism reporting. The Daily News and the Mirror have reported that Kate killed her, Gerry dumped the body and then they went out to dinner. In another issue they claimed that Maddie was SOLD.
The media is not the only ones to blame for this ungodly miscarriage of justice. The Portugal law enforcement agency makes the Keystone cops look like childplay compared to their tactics.
The BBC News reported on February 2,2008 that the head of the Policia Judiciaria, Alipio Ribeiro, has admitted that the McCann's were name "arguidos", formal suspects, too quickly.
Portugal law forbids arguidos to speak publicly about the case they are suspect in.
Policia Judiciaria advised the grief stricken parents to not show any emotion in their initial televised plea for the kidnapper to return their child. They told the McCann's that if the kidnapper saw them show their grief, he would only keep Madeleine longer.
The McCann's have traveled the world looking for their daughter. They have handed out flyers with Maddie's picture, contacted news agencies and even had a visit with the Pope. How can anyone think this is the act of guilty parents? Wouldn't they BE QUIET and stay out of the limelight?
The McCann's had a hard time having children in the first place. They had to turn to in vitro fertilization. They WANTED children.
If either one of them wanted to get rid of their oldest child, there are plenty of ways to make it look like an accident and not be under the umbrella of suspicion. She could have fallen off a cliff, drown, there are any number of ways they could have gotten "rid" of their child.
If you were to believe the nay sayers, Gerry came back to the apartment after playing tennis, found that Kate had killed Madeleine. He disposed of the body, threw her out to sea, and then showered dressed and went to dinner with 7 friends. All in the course of less than 45 minutes.
Kate and Gerry are professional Doctors. They have outstanding work records and are respected citizens in their community. Neither have even a hint of a criminal record. Yet they suddenly without go bonkers and kill their oldest child then go out for dinner with friends?
Ludicrous is how Gerry McCann describes it.
Then the tabloids started another rumor. Gerry was not the real father of Madeleine Beth McCann. Now on top of everything else, Kate and Gerry had to deal with this nonsense.
Robert Murat, 33, a man who lived with his mother in the neighborhood of the Praia da Luz resort, just happened to be on the grounds when Maddie went missing. Murat offered his services a translator for the police. Who is Robert Murat and why would the police trust this man? Later, Murat was named a suspect. He is divorced and has a daughter who looks very much like Maddie and is the same age. His daughter lives in England, he does not see her very often.
He says that is why he has such a high interest in the case. But could he have used his daughter's passport to take Maddie out of the country?
Murat's cars, computers, mobile phones and video tapes were seized by police and examined. Murat was reportedly seen hanging around the villa on the night Maddie was kidnapped. His alibi is that he was home with his mother. His aging mother says he was home watching TV with her.
A British architect who claims he built the Murat villa, says that he called the police to tell them about a hidden room in the basement of the villa but his calls were ignored.
How can anyone be so cold and heartless to assume the McCann's are guilty when by all accounts, the investigation has been nothing but a circus?

It seems to me that any parent who would leave three young children ALONE in a foreign country whilst dining with friends is not incapable of perhaps sedating said children in order to enjoy their evening uninterrupted. Given this train of thought it then becomes possible to imagine a scenario where one of the children is either not sedated enough - (and therefore wanders away and is snatched or meets her death) - or is sedated too much!
The most obvious problem with this scenario is that a doctor would surely know exactly how much medication to give a child in order to obtain the desired amount of sedation. However, since pediatric medicine is a far more exact science than that of adults it is not inconceivable that the amount was over-estimated. People in the medical profession are also far more aware of the generous margins allowed with regard to safe doses and this too could mean that Madelaine was given a higher dose of sedative than would normally be prescribed.
I have little sympathy for a woman who does not offer her children as much protection as she would her handbag, and this sentiment will probably meet with much objection. But ask yourself - "would she have left her handbag in the apartment, unattended, while she dined?" And it seems to me that anyone who does not revere their children enough to protect them at all times is indeed capable of medicating those children for their own convenience.
The evidence against the McCann's is proving flimsy, but the most telling evidence is surely the fact that these parents were out enjoying themselves without making adequate arrangements to ensure the safety of their children. Does this fact in itself not speak volumes?
The world is full of irresponsible parents, bad parents, abusive parents ......! the fact that Madelaine's parents are professional people does not automatically exclude them from this list.
