Whatever happened to innocent until proved guilty? The Portuguese police have botched the investigation into who killed Madeleine from Day One. They failed to secure the crime scene the moment they were alerted; they failed to block off exits from the area; and they failed to interrogate the parents, which any decent police force would have done straight away. What little evidence there may have been at the scene would have disappeared.

What is so frustrating about the whole affair is that the police are able to name suspects. They even leak evidence to the Portuguese press. And the official suspects - what sort of a way is that to conduct a murder/disappearance ? - are blighted by finger-pointing. The suspects are unable to defend themselves while all sorts of accusations are thrown at them.

From the very first, Madeleine's parents have mounted a dignified campaign in front of the whole world. A couple of ordinary people enjoying a holiday in the sun with their young family were suddenly thrust into the media spotlight. Their one aim has been the return of their beloved eldest daughter. They have made themselves available to the press, despite a whispering campaign against them. They have generally controlled their feelings in the face of provocation. They simply want their daughter back. They have refrained from criticizing the incompetent Portuguese police. They finally felt driven out of Portugal and did the one thing they did not want to do - return home without Maddie.

The so-called evidence against the McCanns does not stack up. If they had anything to do with their daughter's death/disappearance, they are supreme actors. They have not shown a glimpse of guilt at any stage. There is no way they could have conducted such a concerted deceit without a single chink in their defense. I am convinced they did not kill their daughter. The suggestion seems to be a last desperate act by the Portuguese police to get the world's media off their own backs. If they suspect the McCanns, well let's see the evidence in court. We all know that isn't likely to happen.

All I can think at this moment in time is that after all this time, Madeleine has still not been found. Every effort must still be made to find her. If somebody has taken her or killed her, then hopefully the evidence will be forthcoming, but the police should not be clutching at straws. The McCann parents have already suffered enough. Don't let's make them suffer even more in their hour of need. If convincing evidence against them does emerge, let's not try them in the media. Put them in front of a court. Only then, if convicted, can we say they are guilty.

Yes

Yes I do think so. It is so obvious that they did it. Why would any caring parent leave their kids alone in a room all by themselves in the world this day? Some people do not think a parent would do it, but lets take a look at the past of parents that have done this?

Susan Smith killed her kids and blamed it on some strangers. She claimed that was car jacked. They found her car and her dead kids in some body of water. Susan finally broke down under heavy questioning, and admitted that she killed them. Now, Susan is sitting in a prison for what she have done to her own kids.

The woman in Texas who drowned her kids in a bathtub. She was a Religious nut who think that her kids was possessed or that the lord told her to do it. She was determined that she was mentally ill for doing what she did, and spent time in prison and in a mental institution.

These two are the ones in the news a lot because of the horrendous acts they did. It is not mothers, but both parents involved in court battles. There are fathers, mothers, boyfriends, girlfriends, and others that have abused or killed children. Some couples wound up going to court because the father or mother killed their baby. Most of the time, the couple are just young especially at the age of 16 to 18 years of age who are under much pressure to raise a child at a young age. There is even cases of adopted of foster parent killing or abuse the children. One elderly lady in Florida took in many disabled children and mistreated them by locking them up, and other abuses. Luckily, those kids and young adults were rescued before any of them died.

As for the McCann's? There is a some reasonable doubt that they killed their daughter. All we have to do is look at the past cases of parents involved in killing their own children, and we will see the problems and the facts that Madeliene's mother could have killed her.
