Fact-Checking on Helium

The Fact Checking Program, part of the Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) on Helium, helps maintain site quality by ensuring the factual integrity of the articles. Fact checkers identify information that is incorrect and focus on helping the author use correct information. Another part of the fact checkers job is to okay articles with correct information: Look for the “Verified” check-mark icon at the top of an article. The “Verified” icon is appearing on more articles every day.

Fact-checking allows every member of the Helium community to play an active role in the quality control process by flagging articles that contain incorrect information, whether in rating or reading on the site. No other writing site offers this level of community participation for fact-checking. Each flag is then reviewed by a team of trained fact checkers, each of who has recognized and credentialed experience within a discipline. Each of our fact checkers has demonstrated the willingness and ability to take site quality control to a whole new level.

In addition to reviewing articles flagged by Helium’s members, fact checkers independently work through articles in their areas of expertise to take a more proactive role in ensuring overall site quality.

Experts and enthusiasts in all areas are welcome to apply and contribute to this program. If you have fact-checking experience, a journalism background or are a journalism student looking to get some experience, please read more on our Volunteer opportunity page and apply today.
