The celebration of Guy Fawkes Night in the UK
Britain's most notorious traitor, Guy Fawkes, was born in York in 1570.
Although he was brought up as a Protestant, he converted to Roman Catholic and became passionate about the plight of the Catholics in England.
Fawkes married in 1592 and, soon after, went to the Netherlands, enlisting in the Spanish army. He helped the Spanish capture Calais in 1596 then travelled to Spain intending to persuade the
