Whooping cough continues to climb in California

Low immunization rates are being blamed for California's largest outbreak of whooping cough since 1950. The disease is most dangerous to infants, and has so far this year been responsible for at least ten deaths. The outbreak has resulted in a change in the immunization requirements in California schools.
Whooping cough, or pertussis, can cause pneumonia, brain damage, seizures, and mental retardation.
