Arguing about what you believe with an open mind

I don't think we can argue effectively or constructively with someone unless we both know from which platform we are arguing from. That means being on the same wavelength. By being on the same wavelength, we have to make sure we are both arguing about oranges only, and not apples and oranges. Sounds abstract? Not really.
From my standpoint, we often argue when we are standing on one dock, yelling
